KU INDOOR
TRACK & FIELD HEADED TO PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University indoor track and field squads will head to
East Stroudsburg for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Bears, under third-year head coach Ray Hoffman,
look to improve on last season’s finish of fourth-place in women's
and fifth for the men.
The women’s team has a large number of competitors who will vie for
PSAC individual crowns.
Ashley Pinter (so.
Bethlehem/Liberty) has the top shot put distance in the PSAC with a throw of 43-3 1/4
at the Susquehanna Open in February, more than three feet further
than second place’s Stephanie Harrison, of Shippensburg.
Pinter enters the weight throw in second with a throw of
51-5 1/2, also at the Susquehanna Open. She trails Lock Haven’s Alaina Leonard, who had a throw of 53-7 at the Penn State Open.
Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield)
and
Kelly Strickland (jr. Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) are tied
for third place in the pole vault with a height of 10-11 3/4.
Another KU notable vaulter is
Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion), who had a vault of
10-6 at the Winter Classic and ranks seventh.
Another field competitor is
Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan).
Costanzo’s best efforts were 15th in the triple jump (34-7 3/4) and
16th in the long jump (16-7 1/4).
In the track events, the Golden Bears have received strong efforts
from
Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown East).
Horstmann is ranked seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.86
at the Susquehanna Open. She also ranks eighth in the PSAC for
the mile, after posting a 5:08.26 at the Boston University
Invitational.
Katie
Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western)
is ranked eighth in the pentathlon (2,805 points) and 16th in the
55-meter high hurdles (9.15).
Also looking to make a move at the championships is
Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro), who ran 55-dash in
7.54 seconds to rank seventh. Quinn also ranks 10th in the
200-dash with a time of 26.84.
Along with Quinn to compete in the 55 and 200 is
Brooke Mathews (fr. Reedsville/Indian Valley). Mathews best
times this season were 7.60 (55 meter) and 26.89 (200 meter).
Samirah Barczynski (jr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) will
compete in the 55 meter dash after posting a 7.63 at the Winter
Classic to rank 17th in the PSAC.
On the men’s side, the Golden Bears are led by thrower
Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton, N.J./Newton). Boutsikaris
ranks third in the weight throw with a distance of 55-0 1/4 at the
Susquehanna Open.
Other throwing top competitors are
Sam Wall (so. Newville/Big Spring) and
Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent).
Wall’s best effort came at Susquehanna with a shot put distance of
47-6 1/2, while Rebuck ranks ninth in the weight throw with a
distance of 52-4 1/2.
Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley)
looks to repeat last season’s first-place finish at the PSAC
indoor meet in the high jump. Hartzler enters this season’s event with the fourth-best jump in the
PSAC with a height of 6-6 1/4.
In the pole vault,
Justin Germani (so. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone),
Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennrdige and
William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) look to compete for
the top spot. Germani’s top vault was a height of 14-11, while
Sherwood had a height of 14-9 1/2 and Hodges with a 14-6.
In the track events, KU has two top-five competitors in the 55-meter
high hurdles, with
T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Township) at fourth and
Shane Harvey (so. Pattenburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) at
fifth. Longmore’s best time of 7.80 seconds came at the Maroon and
Gold Invitational, and Harvey is just behind him, running the race
in 7.85 seconds at the
Susquehanna Open.
Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara)
enters the championships ranked 11th in the 400 with a time of
50.08. While in the 800,
Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) and
Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton) rank 14th and
16th, respectively.
Events begin at 1 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at East
Stroudsburg’s Koehler Field House.
