SAVANNAH, GA - Kutztown handed Armstrong
Atlantic State its first loss of the season with an 11-5 victory in
KU's first action at the Savannah Invitational, hosted by AASU.
Clay Kuklick went 4-5 at the dish with three RBI and three
runs. Scott Senna was 2-5 with two RBI.
Jeffrey Craig also had a pair of hits and three RBI.
Kyle Costello went 2-5, while Gary Stricker was 3-3 and
scored three times. Senna, Craig, Stricker
and Jon Moyer all doubled.
Ryan Loper started and got the win. He went five
innings and struck out three. Phil Rummel hurled the
last four innings to get the save.
The Golden Bears scored four runs in the fourth, behind RBI singles
from Kuklick and Costello. In a three-run
seventh inning, Kuklick added another run scoring knock and
Craig had a two-out, two run double.
Kutztown ended the Pirates 13-game season-opening win streak.

SAVANNAH, GA - The
Golden Bears dropped a 4-1 decision to Montevallo at the Savannah
Invitational.
Jeff Craig and Ryan Loper each went 2-4 at the plate
for KU.
Kyle Sadlowski pitched six innings and took the loss, allowing three earned
runs. He struck out eight, while allowing seven hits and
issuing two walks. Justin Jachowicz threw two innings
of relief, allowing one run.
Kutztown scored its only run in the first inning when Craig
scored on a two-out single by Loper.
The loss drops KU to 7-4 on the season.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Kutztown rebounded from a loss earlier in the day to beat California
(PA), 7-1, at the Savannah Invitational.
The Golden Bears led 2-1 before a five-run outburst in the sixth
inning sealed the game. With the bases loaded and one out, two
runs scored on an error by the Cal third baseman. Ryan
Loper followed with a two-run single and Mike McCardell
capped the rally with an RBI double.
Matt Maradeo pitched seven strong innings for KU. He
scattered five hits and two walks, while striking out 11.
Kevin Morganti and Matt Keller each pitched a scoreless
frame in relief.
Jeff Craig had three hits, a double and an RBI for Kutztown,
who improved to 8-4 with the win. Loper added two hits,
a double and three RBI.
The Golden Bears also scored a pair of runs in the top of the third
inning. Craig stroked an RBI double and Loper
had a sacrifice fly.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Kutztown University continued its strong play at the Savannah
Invitational, defeating the #24 team in Division II, Wayne State
(NE),
7-6 in 10 innings.
Josh Fink
belted a leadoff home run in the 10th to give KU the lead, and
Matt Keller hurled a perfect bottom of the 10th to seal the
victory, KU's third in four games of the invitational. Fink
was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Keller pitched three
innings with four strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season.
Gary Stricker
was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two stolen bases.
Tony Riegel was 2-for-3, Jeffrey Craig was 2-for-6 with
an RBI and Paul Koropchak was 2-for-5.
Kutztown got a solo
homer by Ryan Loper in the sixth, but the Wildcats scored
four times in the bottom half to take the lead. KU scored
twice in the seventh, including an RBI single by Craig, to
pull within 4-3. The Golden Bears took tied it on a solo home
run by Clay Kuklick, then went up 6-4 on a two-run shot by
Stricker in the eighth.
Wayne State
answered, scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth with
help by a KU throwing error. After a scoreless ninth, Fink,
a 5-7 second baseman, started the 10th with a bomb off the
scoreboard.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Mike McCardell struck out nine in seven scoreless innings and
Phil Cavalcante hit his first career home run as the Golden
Bears downed California (PA), 11-2.
McCardell allowed just three hits in his seven innings of
work.
Cavalcante's three-run blast came in the midst of a six-run
seventh inning for KU. It was preceded by back-to-back RBI
doubles from Kyle Costello and Ryan Loper.
Costello and Loper had back-to-back run scoring
singles in the first to give the Golden Bears the lead.
Costello had two doubles in four at-bats and scored
twice. Tony Riegel also went 2-4 and Loper and
Josh Fink were 2-5. Fink and Jon Shade
each doubled.
It was the second win over the Vulcans for KU in three days at the
Savannah Invitational, after defeating California 7-1 on Sunday.
The win was Kutztown's third in a row overall, as the Golden Bears
improved to 10-4

Matt Keller tossed a complete game as the Golden
Bears banged out 13 hits, and KU toppled California (PA) 8-4 at the
Savannah Invitational.
Keller, who improved to 4-0 with the win, allowed eight hits
and two walks while fanning four. He surrendered four runs,
two of which were unearned.
Ryan Loper continued his hot hitting, going 4-5 with a pair
of doubles and two runs batted in. Jeff Craig and
Scott Senna were both 2-4. Both players, as well as
Clay Kucklick, doubled.
Kutztown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first behind a
two-run single by Loper. After the Vulcans knotted the
game in the bottom of the inning, Kutztown plated the winning runs
in their half of the second. Kuklick and Senna
stroked back-to-back RBI doubles with two outs in the inning.
The Golden Bears put the game away in the ninth with a pair of runs.
Gary Stricker walked, advanced on an error and later scored
on a wild pitch. Kuklick also scored in the inning on a
squeeze play.
With the win, KU continued its dominance over the Vulcans. It
was the third time in four days the teams had met at the Savannah
Invitational, with the Golden Bears outscoring Cal 26-7 in the three
contests. It was also Kutztown's fourth straight win overall, and
eighth in its last nine games.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Kutztown's four game winning streak was halted by #22 Wayne State on
Thursday at the Savannah Invitational. Kutztown, ranked #27 in
the latest DII poll, took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on an RBI
double by Tony Riegel that drove in Jon Moyer.
The Wildcats took the lead with three runs in the sixth. KU
pulled within one when Moyer singled in Bryan Riggins
in the sixth, but fell short in the end, hitting into double plays
in the eighth and ninth innings. Justin Jachowicz was
the losing pitcher, giving up the three runs in the sixth.
Kevin Morganti hurled the first four scoreless innings, while
Phil Rummel had 2.2 innings of relief. Riggins was
2-for-3.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Matt Maradeo struck out eight in eight innings of work, but it
was not enough as Fairmont State outlasted the Golden Bears, 3-2.
Fairmont got a 2-0 lead in the third, before KU tied it up with runs
in the seventh and eighth. In the seventh, Mike McCardell
doubled and was pinch run for by Bryan Riggins. Gary
Stricker, who was 2-4, knocked Riggins in with an RBI
single. Ryan Loper tied the game the next inning with a
two-out solo home run. Fairmont answered back with solo homer
of its own in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.
Jeff Craig doubled for KU. Maradeo allowed nine
hits and all three runs.

SAVANNAH, GA -
Mike McCardell went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and pitched
two innings for a save as the Golden Bears came from behind to
defeat Fairmont State, 10-7.
KU trailed 5-2
heading into the bottom of the fourth. Kutztown scored eight
runs in its next three innings to put the game away. Fairmont
added a pair of runs in the seventh for the 10-7 final.
Jeff Craig
scored three times. McCardell drove in a pair of runs,
then pitched scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth for his second
save of the season.
Kyle Sadlowski
benefited from the Golden Bears offensive outburst to pick up his
second win of the year. He pitched the first six innings and
allowed all seven runs on 10 hits and six walks. He struck out
four. Marshall Mirarchi also threw a scoreless inning
in relief.
With the win,
Kutztown completes its spring break trip to the Savannah
Invitational. The Golden Bears went 6-3 in Georgia to improve
to 12-6 overall on the season.
