KUTZTOWN, PA - Steve Fattori scored 27 points as West Chester
dismantled West Virginia State, 82-63, at the Sheraton/AFBE KU
Classic.
Fattori scored his 27 points on 10-of-18
shooting, including 4-of-10 from three-point range. He also
had four rebounds and four assists. Matt Kurtz had 13 points
and nine boards for the Golden Rams. Aaron Williams scored 12
points and Brandon Long had 10 points and a team-high six assists.
Tony Cornett led the Yellow Jackets with
14 points. Mike Brown and Wade Pidock each chipped in with 10.
Chris Dunn had a game-high 10 assists and four steals.
West Chester led by just one at the
half, 40-39, despite shooting 63 percent (15-of-24). WV State
shot 53 percent in the half, backed by 11 of Cornett's 14 points.
The Yellow Jackets built a 24-12 lead in the early going, before the
Golden Rams closed the deficit. Shawn Werdt gave West Chester
the lead, 31-29 with 6:40 left. The teams then battled until
an Anthony Geiger dunke with one second left gave West Chester the
40-39 halftime lead.
The Golden Rams broke the game open in
the second half with a 28-9 run, fueled by 11 points from Fattori.
The surge built the lead to 80-53 with 2:08 to play.
West Chester shot 54 percent on 27-of-50
shooting. The team also hit 10-of-19 from beyond the arc for
53 percent.

KUTZTOWN, PA - Holy Family's Chris Kozole hit a free throw with
no time left in the game to lift Holy Family over Kutztown, 89-88.
Kozole was fouled as he scored the game-tying basket.
The Tigers' Bob Presner scored a
game-high 24 points, and also had seven rebounds. Kozole and
Ryan Haigh each scored 21. Kozole was 6-of-10 shooting, with
four threes and eight assists. Haigh was 8-of-8 from the foul
line. Ryan Lancaster also reached double figures, with 10
points.
Dorian Sims led the Golden Bears with 16
points and was 3-of-4 from three-point range. Bilal Salaam
scored 15 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked eight shots.
Bobby Eberhart notched 15 in the loss, with Ben Arnold and Vince
Pease scoring 14 each. Arnold had eight boards, while Pease
finished 5-of-6 from the field.
Free throw shooting proved to be the
difference in the contest. The Tigers hit 18-of-25 from the
line, while the Golden Bears knocked down just 16 of their 34
attempts.
Kutztown led for most of the first half,
behind 11 of Salaam's 15 points, and held a 50-48 lead at the half.
The Golden Bears led by as many as nine in the second half and led
81-72 with under five minutes to play.
A pair of Kozole free throws cut the
lead to 85-84 with 1:29 remaining. On the next KU possession,
Ben Arnold hit a jumper to put the lead back to three. A
Presner layup cut the lead to one again the Tigers were forced to
foul. The Golden Bears hit just 1-of-4 free throws in the
final 25 seconds to set up Kozole's buzzer beater.
Kutztown shot 49 percent from the floor
on 33-of-67 shooting. The Tigers hit 47 percent of their shots
on 33-of-70 from the field.

KUTZTOWN, PA - West Chester remained unbeaten to start the
season, with a 75-66 win over Holy Family in game three of KU
Classic sponsored by Sheraton-Reading and AFBE at Kutztown
University.
Lenwood Greenwood scored 16 points and Matt Kurtz added 15,
including 13-of-15 from the free throw line, to lead the Golden Rams
(3-0). Steve Fattori added 13 points, hitting all nine free
throw attempts. Aaron Williams added 13 points and nine
rebounds.
As a team, West Chester was 27-of-32 from the line.
For Holy Family, Rasheed Oliver scored 16 points and grabbed
eight rebounds. Bob Presner scored 14 and hauled in 31
rebounds before fouling out with 4:06 to play. Dan Welch
scored 14 points and Ryan Haigh scored 10 for the Tigers (1-2).
The Rams broke open a close first half 10 minutes into the game.
Tied 12-12, WCU scored 12 straight points, including a pair of three
pointers by Mark Gerhart and four free throws by Fattori. WCU
eventually took an 11-point lead into the locker room.
The Tigers came back in the second half. Trailing by seven
with 15:45 remaining, Chris Kozole hit a three pointer and Andrew
Prenser sank a jumper to pull HFC within two, 42-40, with 13:43
left. It was as close as the Tigers would come. After
the teams traded baskets over a three minute stretch, WCU final took
command with a 10-2 run.

KUTZTOWN, PA -- Kutztown overcame a 22-point second-half deficit
to pull out a 90-86 victory over West Virginia State in the final
game of the KU Classic sponsored by Sheraton-Reading/AFBE at
Keystone Hall.
Kutztown outscored the Yellow Jackets 40-14 over the final 10:30
to erase a 72-50 deficit. Frank Moultrie scored 13 of his 20
points during the comeback, while Bobby Eberhart netted eight of his
team-high 21.
Bilal Salaam scored eight points during the flourish, including a
dunk that capped an 11-0 stretch for KU and another slam that put
the Bears ahead for good, 84-83, with 1:05 left. It was
Salaam's final scoring of the game, giving him 999 points for his
career. He had 15 points in the game, to go with nine rebounds
and eight blocks.
KU, which has struggled from the free throw line in its first two
games, connected on 4-of-6 foul shots after taking the lead in the
final minute. For the game, KU was 16-of-21.
Ty Brickus scored 11 points and grabbed six boards, while Vince
Pease added 10 points.
For the Yellow Jackets, Tony Cornett led all players with 33
points and 10 rebounds. Christopher Dunn had 14 points, nine
assists and eight boards.
Cornett, Salaam and Eberhart were named to the Sheraton-Reading/AFBE
KU Classic All-Tournament team. Also named to the team were
Matt Kurtz of West Chester and Bob Presner of Holy Family.
West Chester's Steve Fattori was named the tournament MVP.
