BOXSCORE

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Charlie Parker scored 27 points to lead Millersville to a 99-88 win over Kutztown in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament at Keystone Hall Tuesday night.

Parker hit four of Millersville's 11 3-pointers on the night, as the Marauders were 11-of-16 from the 3-point arc. Cory Bray was 5-of-8 and scored 17 points. Reggie Bates had 18 points, while RayQuan Miles and Bernard Brown both had double-doubles with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Miles, and 12 and 11 for Brown.

Stephen Dennis scored 22 points for KU. Andre Woodlin added 18 and Dave Ben scored 16.  Ryan Washington had 12 points and 12 boards, while Nate Edwards scored 10.

Millersville advances to face Edinboro, who defeated IUP 72-56 on Tuesday. Cheyney will host the final four and will face the winner of the California (Pa.)/Clarion quarterfinal.

The difference in the game was from beyond the arc, where KU hit just 3-of-16 shots. Millersville also had a 23-9 advantage on second-chance points.

The first half was a raucous back-and-forth 20 minutes, in front of an energized 1,950 fans at Keystone Hall. There were seven lead changes and five ties before the teams went into the locker room tied at 45.

The first five minutes of the second half was more of the same, with five lead changes and three ties. Millersville finally took control with a 12-2 run  over a four-minute span for a 67-58 lead with 11:14 to play. Brown scored six straight points during the run.

The Golden Bears whittled the lead to 72-69 on a layup by Washington with 7:52 left, but the Marauders answered with a 9-2 run for a double-digit lead with 4:10 to play.

KU had one last run.  Down 88-78 with 2:10 to play, Woodlin and Edwards hit 3-pointers, sandwiched around two free throws by Millersville's Parker. Woodlin added a pair of free throws with 1:24 remaining that made it 90-86.

Parker missed on Millersville's ensuing possession, but Miles tipped in the rebound.  After a KU miss, Brown's dunk made it an eight-point game.  Millersville then hit 5-of-6 from the line in the final minute to seal it.

KU's season comes to a close with a 19-9 record, second most wins in school history. The team also won a share of the PSAC East title for the first time since 1988.
