Three Kutztown University Wrestlers earn National Berths
Kemmerer and Kalbach – Individual Champions

PEMBROKE, NC - Kutztown University Wrestling finished sixth out of 13 teams at the NCAA Division II East Regional at UNC-Pembroke.

            Pitt-Johnstown won its fifth-consecutive NCAA East Regional title with 120 points.  Mercyhurst placed second with 113.5 and Shippensburg was third with 100 points.  West Liberty finished fourth (91.5), Newberry fifth (86) and Kutztown sixth (69.5).  Gannon placed seventh (58) and UNC-Pembroke was eighth (57).  Belmont Abbey finished ninth (56) and Limestone 10th (44.5).  American International and Anderson tied for 11th (11) and St. Andrews Presbyterian finished 13th (0.5).

            A total of 40 bids to the NCAA Championship were awarded to the top four finishers in each weight class.  Kutztown has three grapplers, Joe Kemmerer, Kevin Kalbach and Chris Chambers, moving onto the NCAA Championships which will be held March 9-10 at Nebraska-Kearny.

            Kemmerer finished first at 133lbs. to gain the individual title and earn his first Division II national berth.  The transfer from UNC-Greensboro was a Division I NCAA qualifier in 2004-05.  In the championship bout, Kemmerer defeated the reigning 133lbs. champion, Brandon Reasy from Pitt-Johnstown, 5-2.

            Kalbach earns his first individual title and second-straight national berth.  Last season, Kalbach was the runner-up at 157lbs. to earn his spot.  Kalbach defeated Phil Bliss from Belmont-Abbey, 3-1, in the championship round.

            Chambers won his fifth place at 149 lbs. bout and moved on to the true fourth place bout.  In the true fourth place match, he defeated Joey Hagedorn from West Liberty to earn his second-straight national berth.

            The Golden Bears had two other place winners - Brett Martinez finished fifth at 141 and Roy Gecelosky placed sixth at 184.
