KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY TEAMS ANNOUNCE MVPs
KUTZTOWN, PA — Kutztown University’s athletics
teams have announced the 2003-2004 team Most Valuable Players. The
MVPs, chosen by the teams and coaches of each sport, were announced
at the All-Sports Banquet, Tuesday, April 27.
Jeff Brickus (sr.
Coatesville/Coatesville) has been named MVP of the men’s
basketball team. He was an All-PSAC East selection and led the
team in scoring (avg. 14.8 per game), assists (123), and steals
(41).
Amanda Zinobile
(sr. Mapleton Depot/S. Huntingdon) has been named the women’s
basketball MVP. She led the team in scoring (avg. 11.5 per
game), was second in rebounding (avg. 4.4 per game) and was an
All-PSAC East selection.
Katie Arbolino
has been chosen as the cheer team’s MVP. Arbolino was a
second year captain and her leadership helped make up quality stunts
and routines for competition.
Joel Smith (sr.
Lebanon/Cedar Crest) has been honored as MVP of the men’s
cross country team. Smith, the team captain, was KU’s top
finisher at PSAC Championships and Regionals, placing 19th
and 32nd respectively.
Molly Lare (fr.
Bethlehem/Liberty) has been named the MVP of the women’s
cross country team. Lare was All-PSAC and All-Region,
finishing seventh and sixth respectively. She was also named the
PSAC Cross Country Rookie of the Year.
Wendy Phillips (sr.
Collegeville/Spring-Ford) has received MVP for the field
hockey team. Phillips was a three year starter for the Golden
Bears and represented KU at the 2003 Division II North/South
All-Star game.
Andre Davis (sr.
Philadelphia/Dobbins Tech) has been selected MVP for the
football team. Davis was a three-time All-PSAC East selection,
including a first team selection this year. He led the team with
five interceptions and was second with 68 tackles.
Laura Boyko (sr.
Mississauga/CANADA) has been chosen as the golf team’s
MVP. She was the team captain who averaged 89.1 in 21 rounds this
year. Boyko holds two KU golf records.
E.T. Hunter (sr. Clarks
Green/Abington Heights) has been named MVP of the men’s
soccer team. He tied for the team lead with seven goals, which
included four game winners. Hunter was an All-PSAC first team
selection and third-team All-Region pick.
Lindsay Will (sr.
Lancaster/Manheim Twp.) has received MVP for the women’s
soccer team. As captain, Will anchored the defense that allowed
only 1.1 goals per game. She was honored as both an All-PSAC and an
All-Northeast Region first-team selection.
Karli Hausman
(Reading/Wilson-West Lawn) has been chosen as MVP of the
softball team. Hausman leads the team with a .341 batting
average with 16 runs and 15 RBIs.
Matt Rowan (sr. Upper
Darby/Upper Darby) has been honored as the MVP of men’s
swimming. He was a national competitor and received honorable
mention All-America in the 50 free and the 100 back. Rowan was a
PSAC champion (50 free) and earned All-PSAC in four events.
Meghan Fenningham (so.
Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) has been named MVP of women’s
swimming. She broke her own school record in the 200
breaststroke. Fenningham earned All-PSAC by placing second in
championships and was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the two
events.
Johannes Wingerter (sr.
Deidesheim, GERMANY) has been selected as the MVP of
men’s tennis. This senior has received this honor after earning
a record of 10-5 in singles and 12-3 in doubles competition this
season.
Kerstin Kloffer (Ludwigs Hafen,
GERMANY) has been chosen as the MVP of women’s tennis.
She earned this honor after joining the team this spring and having
a record of 8-1 in singles and 10-1 in doubles competition.
Jessie Didier (sr.
Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) of the volleyball team received
the Margaret Kantner MVP award. In her time at KU, Didier was a
four-time All-PSAC selection and the 2003 PSAC East Athlete of the
Year. She also holds the KU record in career blocks and hitting
percentage.
Bret Wade (so.
Phoenixville/Phoenixville) has been name the MVP of the
wrestling squad. This year he earned a record of 17-12 with
eight pins. Wade was fourth at NCAA East Regionals, which qualified
him for nationals.
The baseball team and the men’s and
women’s track & field teams will name their MVPs upon the conclusion
of their seasons.
