PHILLIPS
SELECTED TO PLAY IN DIVISION II FIELD HOCKEY ALL-STAR GAME
KUTZTOWN, PA - Wendy Phillips
(sr., Collegeville/Spring-Ford), of the Kutztown University
field hockey team, has been selected to the South Squad All-Star
team for the 2003 NFHCA Division II North/South Senior All-Star
game.
Phillips’ teammate, Kristen Puzino (sr. Ocean Township,
NJ/Ocean Township) was chosen as an alternate for the south
team.
Phillips, a midfielder, played in 18 games this season,
including 17 starts. She
posted one assist. A
three-year starter, Phillips appeared in 40 contests over her
four-year career, starting 31.
The sociology major also served as a 2003 co-captain for the
Golden Bears.
Puzino, a back, played in all 19 games, starting 18.
An elementary education major, Puzino tallied five
points, scoring one goal and assisting on three others. She was also second on the team with three defensive saves.
The contest will be played at Massachusetts-Lowell this
Saturday, November 22.

11 ON ALL-PSAC EAST FOOTBALL TEAMS
KUTZTOWN, PA
– Eleven members of the Kutztown University football team were
named to the 2003 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Eastern Football Team, in voting conducted by the league’s
coaches.
Tight end Jason Henley (fr. Gilbertsville/Boyertown) and
wide receiver Trevor Smith (jr. Bistol/Harry S. Truman) were
named to the first-team offense, while punter Jon Corson (sr.
Lansdale/North Penn) defensive back Andre Davis (sr.
Philadelphia/Dobbins Tech) and defensive lineman Matt Sola
(sr. Blandon/Reading Central Catholic) were selected to the
first-team defense.
Running backs Tony Bria (so. Warminster/William Tennent) and
Stephen Gammage (so. Phoenix, AZ/Brophy), center Trevor
Miller (sr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) and kicker Matt Scartozzi
(so. Malvern/Bishop Shanahan) were named to the second-team
offense. Defensive
lineman Tim Krusen (sr. Penndel/Neshaminy) and linebacker Greg
Mitchell (so. Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) were selected to the
second-team defense.
Henley was standout during his redshirt freshman
season in 2003. He
caught 21 passes for 190 yards and had six touchdown catches.
He started all 11 games at tight end.
Smith earns his first All-PSAC East honor as a junior. He led the PSAC in receptions with 60, while finishing third
in the league in receiving yards with 843, second-most in a single
season at KU. Smith led
the Golden Bears with seven touchdown catches.
During the season, Smith moved up KU’s career records
lists, ending the year fourth in receptions (137), fifth in yards
(1,709) and tied for third in touchdown catches (16).
Corson is a three-time All-PSAC East honoree, having
been named to the second team in 2001 and 2002.
He led the PSAC in punting, averaging 43.0 yards on 55 punts.
He set KU’s single-season record for punting average, while
finishing his career as KU’s all-time leader in punting yards with
8,868 on 230 career kicks.
Davis is a three-time all-conference selection as
well, earning first team honors in 2000 and second team honors in
2001. He finished
second on the team with 63 tackles, while picking off a team-high
five passes and breaking up 10 others.
Davis added two forced fumbles.
Davis also returned 28 kickoffs for 574 yards.
Sola earns his second-straight All-PSAC East honor,
after being named to the second team last year.
Sola anchored the defensive line for KU in 2003, tallying 54
tackles with 16 for losses of 44 yards and 7.5 sacks for 33 yards.
He also forced and recovered a fumble and blocked a kick.
Bria is a first-time all-conference honoree in his
first year as a running back. Bria,
who converted from wide receiver, rushed for 633 yards and five
touchdowns on 163 carries. He
averaged 3.9 yards per carry and 57.5 yards per game.
Bria also caught 20 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Gammage is a two-time All-PSAC pick, having earned
second-team honors last year. In
addition, he was the 2002 PSAC East Rookie of the Year.
This season, Gammage led KU with 699 yards and five
touchdowns on 174 carries. He
averaged 4.0 yards per carry and 69.9 yards per game.
Miller becomes a two-time All-PSAC East performer,
having been named to the second team last fall.
Miller was a four-year starter for KU’s offensive line,
helping the Golden Bears average 309.5 yards of offense, including
128.0 yards on the ground.
Scartozzi notched his first appearance on the
all-conference team in his second year at KU.
He connected on 8-of-10 field goals, tying a school record
for FG accuracy (80.0%). He also hit 20-of-24 point-after-touchdown kicks to finish
with 44 points on the season. Scartozzi
booted a game-winning field goal against West Chester to highlight
his 2003 campaign.
Krusen capped his career with his first All-PSAC East
award. A full-time starter for the first time in 2003, Krusen had 48
tackles, including 10 for losses of 27 yard and 3.0 sacks for 18
yards. He added tow
pass breakups and forced and recovered fumble.
Mitchell was rewarded with his initial All-PSAC East
selection in his second season with the Golden Bears.
Mitchell, a two-year starter, led KU with 85 tackles,
including 11 for losses of 37 yards and 1.5 sacks for 12 yards.
He also tallied seven pass breakups, four fumble recoveries,
a forced fumble and a blocked punt.
Kutztown, under sixth-year head coach Dave Keeny, finished
6-5 overall, 3-3 in the PSAC East.
It was KU’s third winning season in four years.
The Golden Bears tied for fourth place in the division.

COACH EARN PSAC VOLLEYBALL HONORS
Didier, Gump named Athlete, Coach of the Year
KUTZTOWN, PA – Four members of the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division
Champion Kutztown University women’s volleyball team and its head
coach were named to All-PSAC Eastern Division honors on Tuesday, in
voting conducted by the division’s coaches.
Middle hitter Jessie Didier (sr. Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) was
named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year, while head coach John
Gump was named PSAC East Coach of the Year.
Didier was also a first-team selection.
She was joined on the first team by outside hitter Sarah
Brandon (fr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) and setter Katie Herman
(fr. Grove City/Grove City).
Middle hitter Jenn Stocker (jr. Easton/Easton) was
named to the second team.
Didier earned her fourth All-PSAC honor, including her
third first-team selection.
Didier was a first team pick in 2000, 2002 and this year,
while earning second team kudos in 2001.
She ranked fourth in the PSAC with a .364 hitting percentage
in 2003, while leading KU with 81 blocks.
She finished her career with 512 career blocks, a Golden Bear
school record. She also finished as KU’s career leader in hitting
percentage with a mark of .351.
This year, Didier had 200 kills.
Brandon had a sensational freshman season to earn
first-team All-PSAC East honors.
She led KU wih 354 kills, third-most in a single season at
the school. Brandon had
a .300 hitting percentage, to go with 72 blocks and 76 digs.
Herman also turned in a superb rookie year to be named
to first-team All-PSAC East honors.
Herman set a KU single-season record with 1,074 assists.
She added 94 kills in 199 attempts for a .407 hitting
percentage, while tallying a team-high 304 digs and 52 service aces.
Stocker earned her first All-PSAC East honor as a
junior this year. She
tallied 139 kills and a .298 hitting percentage, while ranking
second on the team with 78 blocks.
Gump earns his first PSAC East Coach of the Year award
in his seventh season at KU. He
guided the Golden Bears to a perfect 10-0 mark and its first-ever
outright PSAC East title. The
Golden Bears qualified for the PSAC Playoffs, losing in the
semifinals to eventual champion Lock Haven.
KU finished the year with a 21-9 overall record.

LIVINGSTON EARNS ALL-AMERICA FIELD HOCKEY HONORS
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University’s Erin Livingston (jr.
Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) has been named to the 2003 STX/NFHCA
Division II Field Hockey All-America team.

Livingston was named to the second team.
A defender, Livingston earns her first All-America honor
after being named to first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) honors earlier this month.
She led KU with eight defensive saves, and chipped in on
offense with three goals and two assists for eight points.
All three of her goals were game winners.
Livingston is a two-year starter on defense for Kutztown.
She is also starting third baseman for the Golden Bears’
softball team.

KUTZTOWN
TO HOST PSAC WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS
KUTZTOWN, PA – After a perfect 10-0
season in the PSAC East, Kutztown University’s women’s
volleyball team has earned the right to host the PSAC Playoffs, for
the first time in school history.
The action gets started on Friday, when Edinboro and West
Chester square off at 5:00 PM in Keystone Arena, followed by
Kutztown against Lock Haven at 7:30 PM.
The winners of Friday’s semifinals advance to the finals,
to be held on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
The Golden Bears stand at 21-8 overall and won its first-ever
outright PSAC East title, after sharing the crown with West Chester
last year. KU will face Lock Haven for the second time this season in
the semifinals. The
Lady Eagles defeated Kutztown 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-21) at KU during
the PSAC Crossovers. Lock
Haven is 27-5 overall and 8-2 in PSAC West action.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the semis by defeating IUP in
four games.
In the first semifinal match, PSAC West Champ Edinboro will
face West Chester. The
Fighting Scots are 24-10, with an 8-2 mark in league play.
West Chester, who toppled Shippensburg in four games to move
in to the final four, enters the match with a 19-14 overall mark and
7-3 record in conference play.
Edinboro dropped the Golden Rams in three games at the PSAC
Crossovers in Kutztown earlier this season.
For Kutztown, Sarah Brandon (fr.
Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) and her team-high 340 kills, the
third-best single-season mark in KU history, leads the way.
Katie Herman (fr. Grove City/Grove City) has 1,040
assists, the single season record for the Golden Bears, and a
team-best 49 service aces. Earlier
this season, a pair of seniors set career marks for Kutztown.
Jessie Didier (sr. Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) is the
school's all-time blocking leader with 512, after recording a
team-high 78 so far this season.
Didier also leads the team with a .369 hitting
percentage. Mary Kate Strine (sr. York/Central York) has 128
career aces, also a school record.
Dani Witherite (fr. State College/State College) has
had a productive season as well.
She ranks second on the team in kills (267) and aces (47) and
third in digs (274). Candace Cagle (fr. Brookhaven/Sun Valley) has 293
digs, five more than Herman, to lead Kutztown and Jenn
Stocker (jr. Easton/Easton) is second on the team with 77
blocks.
Lock Haven is led the all around play of Cherry Li. Li also paces the Bald Eagles with 437 kills, 401
digs, 118 blocks and 39 aces. She
also leads the PSAC with a .485 hitting percentage.
Adding to the attack are outside hitters Allison Wade (192
kills; 2.49/gm) and Amanda Synder (174 kills; 2.10/gm). The Lady Eagles have won three conference titles,
all since 1996, including back-to-back honors in 1999 and 2000.
Edinboro features a balanced and explosive attack.
Ashley Walton leads the league with 552 kills, but Katie
Hummel, Amy Medicus and Jen Shaw each have at
least 340. Renee Kam
feeds them the ball and has 1,459 assists.
Walton has 123 blocks and Shaw has 415 digs to
lead Edinboro. The Scots, which last won the hardware in 2001, enter the
playoffs with a PSAC-best nine titles since the tournament started
in 1979.
For West Chester, Tanya Novik leads the Golden
Rams with 501 kills. Novik
also tops the squad with a .363 hitting percentage.
Beth Foster has 511 digs, and Nicole Vestock
has 116 blocks. Both
marks lead West Chester. Val
Louey has more aces, 70, than any other PSAC competitor.
Ticket prices for the games are $7 for adults and $2 for
students.

MILLER AND
BALDWIN SELECTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
KUTZTOWN, PA – Offensive lineman Trevor
Miller (sr. Lititz/Manheim
Twp) and defensive back Michael Baldwin (so.
Philadelphia/Dobbins Tech) have been named to the 2003 CoSIDA
Academic All-America District II Team.

Miller was selected to the first team, while Baldwin was
voted to the second team. Both
players are making their first appearances on the team.
By making the district first team, Miller qualifies for the
national ballot. The
criminal justice major is a four-year starter and has appeared in
every game of his college career.
He is also a three-time PSAC scholar-athlete, a six time
member of the Dean’s List (3.60 GPA or better), and a two-time
recipient of a Kutztown University Provost Award (athletes with at
least a 3.25 GPA). In
2002, Miller was selected to the All-PSAC second team, and was named
to Street & Smith’s 2003 Preseason All-America team.
He has a 3.58 GPA.
Baldwin, also a criminal justice major, is a two-year starter
at safety for the Golden Bears.
As a freshman, he received a Kutztown University Provost
Award (athletes with at least a 3.25 GPA), and was a PSAC
scholar-athlete. Baldwin
is a four-time member of the Dean’s List (3.60 GPA or better).
In 2003, the defensive back has been limited to just six
games due to injury, with 28 tackles and a pair of fumble recoveries
to his credit. Baldwin
has a 3.79 GPA.
The team is selected by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
The District II Region includes Delaware, the District of
Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The national team will be announced on December 1.

KUTZTOWN’S
WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM EARNS FIRST-EVER NCAA PLAYOFF BERTH
KUTZTOWN, PA – The storybook season
for the Kutztown University women’s soccer team will get another
chapter.
The Golden Bears have been selected for the 2003 NCAA
Division II National Championship tournament.
KU is the #4 seed in the Northeast Region and will travel to
Garden City, NY, for the Northeast Regional Playoffs at Adelphi
University on Friday.
KU will take on Adelphi, the #1 seed, in the first round at
11:00 AM. Slippery Rock
(#2) will face West Chester (#3) in the other first round game at
1:30 PM on Friday. The
winners will square off for the regional championship on Sunday at
noon for the right to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on November
22 or 23.
Kutztown set a school record this year with a mark of 14-3-3
overall, 9-2-1 in the PSAC. Kutztown
advanced to the post-season for the first time, losing to Lock
Haven, 3-0, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Quarterfinals. This is Kutztown’s first-ever NCAA appearance.
The Golden Bears are led by first-team All-PSAC forward Kelly
Lau (fr. York/Central York), who has scored 14 goals and dished
out eight assists for 36 points, second-most in a single season in
school history. Fellow forward Chrissy Jack (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean
City) has 11 goals and two assists.
All-PSAC midfielder Lauren Tatro (jr. Somerville,
NJ/Somerville) has four goals and eight assists.
All-conference back Lindsay Will (sr. Lancaster/Manheim
Twp.) leads the stingy defense with allows less than one goal
per game, while second-team All-PSAC goalkeeper Mandi Johnsen (so.Whitehall/Quakertown)
set a school record with eight shutouts and holds a 0.97
goals-against average with 112 saves.
Adelphi enters the northeast regional with a record of 16-1-1
overall and 11-0 in the New York Athletic Conference. The Panthers
won their third consecutive NYCAC title November 4th with a 1-0 win
over C.W. Post. Adelphi is currently ranked number four in the
nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. This
is Adelphi's second consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament
and eighth NCAA appearance in the last 15 years.
The Panthers are led by forward Josephine Coiro, who
has 15 goals and four assists.
Midfielder Luciana Pace has 12 goals and four assists,
while midfielder Marissa Cotilletta has eight goals.
Midfielder Lena Dunning leads the team with eight
assists. Goalkeeper Andrea Fasano has allowed just four goals
for a 0.23 goals-against average in 1,563 minutes.
Adelphi has not allowed a goal in 12 consecutive games,
dating back to September 27.
Kutztown and Adelphi did not meet during the regular season,
however Adelphi was 5-0 against PSAC teams.

FOUR GOLDEN
BEARS NAMED TO ALL-PSAC WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM
KUTZTOWN, PA – Four members of the
record-breaking Kutztown University women’s soccer team have been
named to the 2003 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
team in voting conducted by the league’s coaches.
Back Lindsay Will (sr. Lancaster/Manehim Twp.),
midfielder Lauren Tatro (jr. Somerville, NJ/Somerville) and
forward Kelly Lau (fr. York/Central York) were named to the
first team, while goalkeeper Mandi Johnsen (so.
Whitehall/Quakertown) was selected to the second team.
Will anchors the Golden Bear defense, starting all 20
games at sweeper. Will
and her fellow defenders limited teams to less than eight shots and
one goal per game. She also chipped in on offense, scoring two goals with four
assists. This is
Will’s first all-conference selection.
Tatro earns her second All-PSAC honor, after being
named to the second team last year.
Tatro tied for the team lead with eight assists. She
added four goals for 16 points.
Three of her goals were game winners.
Tatro holds KU’s career record for assists with 25.
Lau has had a sensational freshman season.
She leads the team with 14 goals and 36 points, tying for the
team lead with eight assists.
Her 14 goals are the third most in a single season at KU,
while her 36 points are the second highest total in school history.
Will, Tatro and Lau are the first KU players to earn
first-team All-PSAC honors since 1995.
Johnsen has recorded 112 saves and a 0.97
goals-against average, playing 1,763 minutes in goal.
She set a school single-season record with eight shutouts.
It is her first All-PSAC honor.
Kutztown, under ninth-year head coach Jeff Schellenberger,
set a school record with 14 victories and nine conference wins.
KU was 14-3-3 overall, 9-2-1 in the PSAC. The Golden Bears have qualified for their first-ever
appearance in the NCAA Championships.
KU, the #4 seed, will take on host and #1 seeded Adelphi in
the first round of the Northeast Regional Tournament on Friday at
11:00 AM.

EARN ALL-PSAC HONORS IN MEN’S SOCCER
KUTZTOWN, PA – Two members of the
Kutztown University men’s soccer team have been selected to the
2003 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) team in
voting conducted by the league’s coaches.

Midfielder E.T. Hunter (sr. Clarks Green/Abington Heights)
was selected to the first team, while back James Pollex (sr.
Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) was tabbed for the second team.
Hunter earns his third All-PSAC honor after being
named to the second team in 2001 and 2002.
He scored seven goals and dished out three assists for 17
points. Four of his
goals were game winners.
Pollex had a breakthrough season in 2003, his first as
a full-time starter. Pollex
anchored KU’s defense, which allowed just eight shots and 1.35
goals per game. This is
Pollex’s first All-PSAC honor.
Kutztown, under sixth-year head coach Otto Ormosi, was
8-7-4 overall, 4-4 in the PSAC.

HERMAN NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown
University’s Katie Herman (fr. Grove City/Grove City HS),
of the women’s volleyball team, has been named the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the
Week.
Herman led Kutztown to a 3-0 week and the school's first-ever
10-0 Eastern Division slate. She
totaled 150 assists (10.0 per game), along with seven aces and 64
digs (4.27 per game). She
had 50 assists and 27 digs vs. Lafayette, 55 assists, five kills and
27 digs vs. East Stroudsburg, and 45 assists and six kills vs.
Millersville.
For the season, Herman has amassed 1,040 assists, becoming
the first player in school history to reach the 1,000 assist plateau
in a single season. She
also has 94 kills and 12 errors in 189 attempts for a .434 hitting
percentage. Herman
leads KU wit 49 service aces, and has racked up 288 digs.
Kutztown, which finished the regular season 21-8 overall,
10-0 in the PSAC East, will host the PSAC Final Four on Friday and
Saturday, November 14-15. KU
will take on the winner of Tuesday’s first-round matchup between
Lock Haven and Indiana (PA) in Friday’s second semifinal at 7:30
PM at Keystone Hall. Edinboro
will face the winner of West Chester/Shippensburg in the first
semifinal at 5:00 PM on Friday.
The semifinal winners will play at 5:00 PM Saturday for the
PSAC Championship.

PICKED SECOND, WOMEN FIFTH IN PRE-SEASON POLL
Jeff Brickus, Bilal Salaam Selected to Pre-Season All-Conference
Team
KUTZTOWN,
PA – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has
released its preseason basketball polls, with the Kutztown men
picked to finish second in the Eastern Division and the women
selected as the number five team in the East.
Additionally, point guard Jeff Brickus (sr.
Coatesville/Coatesville) and forward Bilal Salaam (jr.
Wilmington, DE/Howard) of the men’s team have been selected to
the preseason All-PSAC East team.
Millersville is picked ahead of KU on the men’s side, while
West Chester is slated to finish first on the women’s side in
voting conducted by the league’s coaches.
The Golden Bear men return all five starters from last
season’s squad that finished 18-10 overall and finished third in
the division to qualify for the PSAC postseason.
Head coach Bernie Driscoll’s squad improved 12 games
from the 2001-02 season. Brickus
led the conference with 2.1 steals per game, and also had team highs
with 16.0 points per game and 5.1 assists per contest.
Salaam was the nation’s second-most prolific shot
blocker at 3.7 per contest, and also led Kutztown by averaging 9.8
rebounds per game. Besides
the All-PSAC performers, all three of the other starters return as
well. T.J. Mann (sr.
Glen Mills/Malvern Prep), a forward, matched Salaam’s
scoring average of 12.0 ppg, and also averaged 7.3 rpg.
Bobby Eberhart (jr. Lancaster/J.P. McCaskey) scored
11.8 ppg and was the Golden Bears’ top three-point shooter at
.392. Tyree Brickus (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville), Jeff’s
brother, rounds out the starters with his 7.8 ppg. Sixth man Vince Pease (jr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt)
also returns. Among the
newcomers are center Tyler Reynolds (jr., Athens/Athens), a
transfer from Division-I Cleveland State, and guard Terrance
Davis (fr. Philadelphia/Scotland School), who redshirted last
season. The team also
features a pair of players from Israel in guard Maoz Suez (sr.
Even Yehuda, ISRAEL) and forward Amir Karni (fr. Rishin le
Zion, ISRAEL).
For the women, guards Danielle Warntz (sr.

Haven/Central Mountain) return as starters from a 2002-03 team
that finished 13-15 overall and 6-6 in the PSAC East. The season snapped a seven-year run of winning records for
the Golden Bears and head coach Janet Malouf. KU, however, qualified for PSAC playoffs for the eighth
consecutive year. Warntz
led the conference in three-point accuracy (.430) last season and
tied for the team-lead with 12.3 ppg.
Zinobile recorded 80 assists and averaged 10.4 ppg,
while Martin brings back marks of 3.8 ppg and 3.0 rpg.
Other key returnees include forward Monique Boykins (so.
Yeadon/Penn Wood) and Trish Dudeck (so. Shamokin/Shamokin)
and guard Carolyn Franchetti (so. West Chester/West Chester East).
Boykins is the team’s leading returning rebounder
after averaging 5.5 per contest a year ago.
Dudeck started 11 games in 2002-03 and averaged 3.5
rpg. Franchetti
was Kutztown’s most accurate free throw shooter at .821.
Malouf also welcomes a large recruiting class that
includes guards Megan Bainbridge (fr. Minersville/Nativity BVM)
and Jen Varano (fr. Shamokin/Shamokin), forward Jess Brady
(fr. Wescosville/Emmaus), and centers Jackie Daley (fr.
Havertown/Haverford) and Lindsay Wentz (fr.
Souderton/Souderton). Bainbridge
is expected to start at point guard, while Daley and Wentz
should see significant time in the frontcourt.
The men get underway on November 22 and 23, when they play in
the Shepherd College Invitational, while the women kick off their
season on November 19 with a road game at Felician.

University’s Erin Livingston (jr. Philadelphia/Archbishop
Carroll) has been named to the 2003 All-Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team.

A defender, Livingston earns her first All-Conference honor. She led KU with eight defensive saves, and chipped in on
offense with three goals and two assists for eight points. All three of her goals were game winners.
Livingston is a two-year starter on defense for Kutztown.
She is also starting third baseman for the Golden Bears’
softball team.
Kutztown’s field hockey team finished the 2003 season with
a 7-12 record, 6-10 in the PSAC.

HUNTER NAMED PSAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown
University’s E.T. Hunter (sr. Clarks Green/Abington Heights),
of the men’s soccer team, has been named the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player of the Week.
Hunter earned the award for his performance in Kutztown’s
4-3 season-finale win over California (PA) on Saturday.
He scored two-goals and had an assist in Kutztown's
come-from-behind win. Trailing, 3-0, in the second half, he assisted
on KU's first goal and scored the next goal. After the Golden Bears
tied the game, Hunter scored the game-winner with a minute left in
the match.
Hunter finished the season with seven goals and three
assists. The Golden
Bears were 8-7-4 overall, 4-4 in the PSAC.

SOCCER TO HOST LOCK HAVEN IN PSAC PLAYOFF OPENER
KUTZTOWN,
PA – The Kutztown University women’s soccer team will continue
its record-setting season when it hosts Lock Haven in the first
round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs
on Tuesday at 1:00 at Keystone Field.
Kutztown, making its first ever appearance in the postseason,
is seeded third, while the Lady Eagles own the sixth seed.
LHU will make its eighth-straight appearance in the PSAC
tournament. The winner of the game advances to Friday’s semifinal
against #2 seeded West Chester.
Kutztown, under ninth-year head coach Jeff Schellenberger,
owns a mark of 14-2-3 overall and 9-2-1 in the PSAC.
The Golden Bears have set program records for victories (14),
conference victories (9), and shutouts (8) this season.
KU has an 8-1-1 mark at Keystone Field in 2003.
The trio of Kelly Lau (fr. York/Central York),
Chrissy Jack (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City), Lauren Tatro
(jr., Somerville, NJ/Somerville) pace the Golden Bear offense.
Lau leads the team in goals (14) and points (36), and
is tied with Tatro for the team lead in assists (8).
Jack ranks second on the team with 11 goals and 24
points. Tatro
has 16 points from eight assists and four goals. Defensively, goalkeeper Mandi Johnsen (so.
Whitehall/Quakertown), backs Lindsay Will (sr.
Lancaster/Manheim Twp.) and Kate Downing (jr.
Reading/Muhlenberg) and company have teamed to form the second
stingiest squad in the PSAC, allowing just 0.87 goals against.
For the season, Johnsen has a school-record eight
shutouts to go with a 0.86 goals against average and .874 save
percentage. Will
is also the team's fourth leading scorer, with eight points off a
pair of goals and four assists.
Lock Haven, under second-year head coach Shannon Champ,
enters the contest at 8-11-1 overall, 6-5-1 in the conference and
4-6 on the road. Lock
Haven won three-straight PSAC titles from in 1999 to 2001.
The Lady Eagles lost in last year’s semifinals to
Millersville, 2-1.
Despite appearing in only half the Lady Eagles' games this
season, Martina Hall leads the squad with six goals and 15
points. Holly
Homsher has a team-high nine assists and ranks second with 13
points. Four players
are tied for second on the team behind Hall with four goals.
Brooke Rangi has four goals and four assists for 12
points. Joanna
Bisphan, Caitlin Sultzbach and Danielle Smith have
each scored four goals, as well.
In goal, Brandie Kessler, Diane Wall, and Heather
Ireland have split time. Kessler has started the last three games, and has
logged the most time in net. In
limited action, Ireland leads the team with a 1.44 GAA and
.787 save percentage.
In the teams’ regular season contest, Kutztown notched a
3-1 win at LHU. Lau
scored two goals, while Tatro had a goal and an assist to
lead the Golden Bears. Johnsen
had nine saves. Rangi
scored the Lady Eagles’ lone marker.
Wall collected one save in goal.
Tickets to the game will be available at the gate.
Prices are $7 for adults, $2 for students, $1 for KU
Students.
Tuesday’s other first-round contest features #5 Edinboro at
#4 Millersville. The
winner of that contest advances to face #1 seeded Slippery Rock.
Friday’s semifinal winners will square off for the championship on
Sunday at the highest remaining seed.
