KU ANNOUNCES ATHLETES, ROOKIES, COACHES OF THE YEAR
KUTZTOWN, PA
– The Kutztown University Athletics Department has named its
Athletes, Rookies and Coaches of the Year for the 2004-05 school
year.
Kerstin Kloeffer (so. Ludwigs Hafen, GERMANY), a member of the
KU women’s tennis team, was selected as the Female Athlete of the
Year, while baseball’s Matt Keller (jr. Fleetwood/Fleetwood)
was chosen as the Male Athlete of the Year. Kim Kelty (fr.
Levittown/Neshaminy) of the women’s soccer team and Steve
Tyson (fr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) from men’s track & field
earned Rookie of the Year honors. Suresh Ramamurthi was
named the Men’s Athletics Coach of the Year for his efforts with the
men’s tennis program and Jeff Schellenberger of women’s
soccer was picked as the Women’s Athletics Coach of the Year.

Kloeffer |
Kloeffer was the first KU women’s tennis player to be named the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player of the Year and
also earned a spot on the all-conference first team this season.
She compiled an 11-1 mark playing at first singles and was 15-1 at
first doubles. Kloeffer helped the Golden Bears to their first NCAA
East Regional title and an appearance in the NCAA Round of 16, where
the team tied for ninth.

Keller |
Keller was named third team All-America by the American Baseball
Coaches Association (ABCA), was a member of both the ABCA and
National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-North
Atlantic Region first teams. A second-team All-PSAC East pitcher,
Keller posted an 11-2 record on the mound for the Golden Bears,
tying him for the second most wins in a season by a KU hurler. He
led the team with four saves and established the school career
record with 15. His 22 appearances were also a team-high and his
3.47 earned run average ranked third. He recorded a win and two
saves in the PSAC Championships, helping the Golden Bears to the
conference title. He also received the win in KU’s only victory at
the North Atlantic Regional, where the team tied for third.

Kelty |
Kelty was tabbed the PSAC East Rookie of the Year and was named
to the All-PSAC East first team last fall. She appeared in all 21
games, starting 16, and finished third on the team with five goals
and five assists. Her 15 points were tied for third on the squad.
The midfielder had two assists in KU’s PSAC semifinal win over
Bloomsburg, and had a goal in the team’s 3-2 loss to Indiana (PA) in
the conference title game.

Tyson |
Tyson won the PSAC indoor and outdoor shot put crowns as a
freshman. His winning throw at the PSAC Outdoor Championships
established a stadium record of 50-11 1/2. He won the shot put at
each of his final three outdoor meets and four times overall during
the outdoor season. Tyson competed at the Penn Relays, where he
finished 21st in the ‘Eastern’ Flight of the shot put. During the
indoor season, he won the shot put at four of his seven meets.

Ramamurthi |
Ramamurthi’s men’s tennis team won a school-record 20 matches en
route to titles at the PSAC Championships and the NCAA East
Regional. The team then advanced to the NCAA Round of 16, where the
Golden Bears tied for ninth. In addition to a 20-2 overall mark, KU
finished a perfect 5-0 in PSAC play. The Golden Bears opened the
season with a 14-match win streak. Ramamurthi coached five All-PSAC
performers and the conference Player of the Year, as well as the ITA
Senior Athlete of the Year.

Schellenberger |
Schellenberger claimed the Women’s Coach of the Year for the
second straight year and was also picked as the PSAC East Coach of
the Year this season. His team finished 14-5-2 overall and 8-3 in
the PSAC East to win the division. The women’s soccer team advanced
to the conference championship game for the first time in school
history. His squad tied the school record for wins, won its second
most PSAC contests ever, and tied a season mark with eight
shutouts. The 19 goals allowed by the Golden Bears were the second
fewest in KU history. Schellenberger coached the PSAC Rookie of the
Year, seven All-PSAC players and one All-East Region team member.
The athlete, rookie and coach of the year awards are based on
2004-05 accomplishments. Nominees are voted upon by the KU Athletics
Department’s coaches and staff.
