KUTZTOWN BASEBALL
RANKED #1 IN DIVISION II
KUTZTOWN, PA – The
Kutztown University baseball team completed its climb to the top of
the NCAA Division II Baseball rankings, earning the #1 spot in the
April 30 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.
Kutztown is 43-3 overall, having won its last 14 games. The Golden
Bears take over the top spot from Cal. State-Los Angeles, which is
37-10-1 after losing three of four games last week. Cal. State-LA
fell to #4 this week. Sonoma State (44-8) and Tampa (39-9) are tied
at #2. Kutztown was ranked #2 last week and had spent several
previous weeks at the #3 spot.
The
Golden Bear baseball team is the first on record in school history
to achieve a #1 national ranking. The previous best was shared by
two teams, last week’s baseball team, which was ranked #2, and the
field hockey team in 1997, which finished the year ranked #2.
KU is
just the second team from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
to reach #1 in the CBN poll. Mansfield opened the season
ranked #1 in 1995, and remained #1 through a handful of early-season
polls before falling from the top spot.
Winner
of the regular-season PSAC East title, Kutztown will take part in
the PSAC Championships beginning Thursday with a 9:00 AM game
against Shippensburg. KU’s next game in the six-team,
double-elimination tournament will be later in the day on Thursday.
KU is the two-time defending PSAC Champion and has won three of the
last five crowns.
KU has
one final regular-season game against Albright tonight (Monday) at
First Energy Stadium in Reading. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35
PM. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1240 AM, and on the
web by KUR SportsOnline, at kubears.com.

KUTZTOWN TO HOST
2007 PSAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University will serve as host for the 2007 Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference Championships, this Thursday-Saturday, May
3-5.
The
six-team, double-elimination tournament will begin on Thursday and
continue through Saturday. Kutztown and Lock Haven have clinched
the #1 seeds from the PSAC East and West, respectively. Bloomsburg
and East Stroudsburg are the #2 and #3 seeds from the East.
California (PA) and Edinboro have clinched the remaining Western
berths, but their seeding order will be determined by a makeup
doubleheader on Tuesday, May 1.
Bloomsburg will play the West #3 seed at 10:00 AM Thursday. East
Stroudsburg will play the West #2 seed at noon. Lock Haven will
take on the winner of game one at 2:30 PM and the host Golden Bears
will take on the winner of game 2 at 4:30 PM.
The
losers of games one and two face off in the first elimination game
at 10:00 AM Friday. The losers of games three and four play at
noon. The winners bracket game between the winners of games three
and four play at 2:30, followed by the winners of games five and six
at 4:30 PM.
Saturday’s games begin at 11:00 AM with the winner of game eight vs.
the loser of game seven. The Championship round follows at 1:00 PM,
with another game to follow if necessary.
Ticket
prices are $7 for adults. A tournament pass may be purchased on
Thursday for $15. Student tickets are $2 for students from non
PSAC institution. Students of PSAC institutions will be admitted
free with a valid ID.
All
games will be played at Kutztown University’s North Campus Field.

KU SOFTBALL MOVES
UP TO #15 IN DIVISION II
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University’s
softball team has moved up two spots in the latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll, released
Thursday.
Kutztown moved into a tie for 15th place, after being ranked 17th
last week. KU shares the spot with Midwestern (TX) State.
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Lock Haven fell
from first to second behind Columbus (GA) State. Shippensburg is
the only other PSAC team in the poll at #25.
The
Golden Bears also remained #2 in this week’s Mid-Atlantic Regional
behind Lock Haven. Bloomsburg is third in that ranking, followed by
Shippensburg.
Kutztown is 37-13 overall, 19-1 in the PSAC East. The red-hot Golden
Bears, who have won 19 straight games, will host Millersville for a
doubleheader at North Campus Field on Friday at 2:30 PM. The Golden
Bears have already clinched a share of the PSAC East title and the
right to host the PSAC Playoffs, May 3-5.

KU MEN’S TENNIS SET TO HOST NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
KUTZTOWN, PA
– The Kutztown University men’s tennis team will host an NCAA
Division II East Region first and second-round tournament on
Thursday and Friday, May 3-4 at Keystone Courts.
There
are 16 first- and second-round tournaments in the eight regions, two
per region, throughout the country. The winner of each tournament
advances to the finals in Altamonte Springs, FL, with the Central
Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College serving as co-hosts,
May 9-12.
Second seeded Kutztown (10-2) matches up against seventh
seed Bentley (12-10) at 3:30 PM Thursday. Queens, sixth seed, (9-7)
will face Mercy, third seed, (9-3) in the first match at 11:00 AM.
The winners will face each other on Friday at 1:00 PM. Stonehill
is hosting the other East Regional.
The winner of the regional at Kutztown will face the
winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regional, being held at Armstrong
Atlantic, in the round of 16.
The Golden Bears are making their 10th consecutive
appearance in the NCAA Regional, having appeared in the tournament
every year since 1998. KU has won the East Regional in each of the
past five seasons to advance to the Division II round of 16. KU’s
men won their fourth-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) title this season. KU has won seven of the last eight PSAC
Championships under head coach Suresh Ramamurthi.
Kutztown, currently 31st in the nation, is led by
Sanitago Baquerizo (so. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Lukas
Labitsch (so. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA). The duo, ranked first
in the region and sixth in the nation, has a perfect 10-0 record at
first doubles and 15-2 overall. Baquerizo is #2 in the
region and 32nd in the nation in singles play with a record of
15-3. Labitsch (9-4) is 12th in the region in singles.
Bentley
College
is making its second-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Regional.
The Falcons are led by Greg Avola and Greg Maloomoian in doubles.
The duo has a 12-4 record this season. Maloomian (12-10) and Avola
(9-5) are also Bentley’s top singles players.
Queens College earned its sixth consecutive
appearance at the NCAA Regional. Queens is led by senior Wojciech
Stuchlik who is currently #1 in the region and #27 in the nation in
singles play. The duo of Billy Almeyda and Stuchlik are #9 in the
country and #2 in the region in doubles. Almeyda is #14 in the
region in singles.
Mercy, currently 37th in the country, is making
its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Regional. Vyacheslav Glebov is
fifth in the region in singles play while Alican Seren is ninth and
Yusufcan Koksal is 15th. The team of Koksal and Glebov are #7 in
the region in doubles action.

KRANZ, MILLS SWEEP
PSAC HONORS; GOLDEN BEARS RANKED #2 IN NATION
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s baseball team, ranked #2 in the
nation, swept the weekly Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Eastern Division awards on Monday.
The
Golden Bears, who moved up to #2 in this week’s American Baseball
Coaches Association (ABCA)/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
Division II poll, are the first team from the North Atlantic Region
to be ranked #2 since Mansfield was the top pick in the 1995
pre-season and early-season polls.
Kutztown trails only Cal. State-Los Angeles in the poll (39-4-1).
Tampa (36-9) is third.
Kutztown is 38-3 overall, 15-1 in the PSAC East. The Golden Bears,
winners of nine straight and 22 of their last 23, have already
clinched the PSAC East regular-season title with four games to play
Friday-Saturday against Mansfield.
Nate
Kranz (so. Silver Spring/Cumberland Valley) was named PSAC East
Player of the Week, while Jason Mills (sr. Hatfield/North Penn)
was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week.
Kranz
hit .500 (11-for-22) as Kutztown went 8-0 for the week. Most
notably, he was the leader on offense in a four-game sweep of
Bloomsburg as he hit .545 (6-11) with three runs and two RBI. In a
come-from-behind win on Friday, he drove in and scored a run, and
went 4-for-4 in a 5-3 win on Saturday. For the week he totaled six
runs, four doubles, a triple and two steals.
Kranz
is hitting .345 (41-for-119) on the season, with 39 runs scored,
eight doubles and two triples. He has driven in 33 runs.
Mills went the distance in his only appearance of the week, an
eight-inning contest that Kutztown won, 5-0, over Bloomsburg.
Against a Husky unit that entered the week hitting .313 (3rd PSAC)
against conference competition, he scattered seven hits, allowing
just two walks while striking out six.
In six
appearances this season, Mills is a perfect 6-0 with three complete
games. In 42.0 innings, he has allowed just seven earned runs for a
1.50 earned-run average. He has 35 strikeouts and opponents bat just
.203 against him.
Kutztown will be in action on Thursday with a
single-game vs. Wilmington (DE) at 3:00 PM at North Campus Field.

FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE, SOFTBALL TWINBILL HIGHLIGHT “SUPER SATURDAY”
KUTZTOWN, PA – With
the weather forecast finally looking like spring has arrived, it
will be “Super Saturday” on and around the campus of Kutztown
University, with a full slate of athletic events scheduled tomorrow
(April 21).
The
red-hot Golden Bear softball team looks to clinch a playoff spot and
extend its school record winning streak with a doubleheader against
Shippensburg starting at 1:00 PM at North Campus Field. Capping the
schedule will be the annual Maroon & Gold football scrimmage at
University Field, starting at 4:00 PM.
The
softball team can clinch a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference playoffs with one or two wins against the Lady Raiders.
Depending on the outcome of Friday and Saturday’s other division
games (KU does not play Friday), the Golden Bears not only can
clinch the playoff berth, but could also win the PSAC East
regular-season title. The winner of the PSAC East title earns the
right to host the conference championship tournament, May 3-5.
The KU
football team will square off in its annual intra-squad scrimmage
Saturday afternoon. It will be the offense vs. the defense, using a
modified scoring system. Last year, the offense won, 53-36.
Also on
Saturday, the women’s golf team will host day two of the Golden Bear
Invitational at Berkleigh Country Club, just minutes south of
campus. The eight-team tournament will get started at 1:30 PM.
In
non-traditional competition, the KU field hockey team will host an
11-on-11 tournament beginning at 11:00 AM at University Field.
Also, the Golden Bear men’s soccer team hosts its annual alumni game
at 11:00 AM at Keystone Field.
Admission to all events is free and open to the public.
Kutztown's
baseball, men's tennis and track & field teams all compete on the
road on Saturday.

KUTZTOWN BASEBALL RANKED FIRST IN NORTH ATLANTIC REGION
KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University baseball team
is ranked first in the initial poll of the NCAA Division II North
Atlantic region according to the April 19th poll released by the
NCAA Division II committee.
The Golden Bears, under the direction of head coach Chris Blum,
hold a 30-3 record overall and an 11-1 record in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.
Other PSAC teams in the rankings are California {PA}
(22-11) at #2, Slippery Rock (20-10) at #3, West Chester (20-11)
ranked #4 and Shippensburg (18-15) at #6.
The top six teams in each region of the
NCAA Division II poll determine the participants in the NCAA
Championships. The winner of a conference tournament receives an
automatic berth. Regionals are set for Thursday May 17th through
Sunday May 20th at a site to be determined.
In other poll news, Kutztown
remained third in the national rankings, according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Also this week, Kutztown remained atop the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association North Atlantic Regional poll
and is third in its national rakings.
Kutztown will take on Felician today in a
doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, NY.
First pitch was at 1:00 PM.

KUTZTOWN SOFTBALL ENTERS NATIONAL RANKINGS
Golden Bears Remain #2 in Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll
KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University softball team
is ranked 17th in Division II according to the April 18th
poll from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. In addition,
KU remained second in the Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings.
KU enters the national rankings for the first time this season. The
Golden Bears, under the direction of head coach Judy Lawes,
hold a 33-13 record overall and a 15-1 record in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. Kutztown is
currently enjoying a school-record 15-game winning streak.
Lock Haven (34-1) is ranked first in Division II while
Bloomsburg (21-10) is 22nd to round out other PSAC teams in the
poll.
In the latest Mid-Atlantic Region poll, released
Wednesday, Lock Haven is ranked #1. Kutztown holds the #2 spot
while Bloomsburg is third. Other PSAC schools include East
Stroudsburg (#4), Shippensburg (#6), Slippery Rock (#9) and Indiana
(PA) (#10).
The Mid-Atlantic regional rankings will determine the
participants in the NCAA Championship tournament. The top eight
teams from each of the eight regions qualify for the softball
championship tournament, to be held May 10-12 at a site to be
determined.
Kutztown will be back in action on
Saturday when it hosts Shippensburg for a doubleheader. First pitch
is set for 1:00 PM at North Campus Field.

FOUR KU TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES HAVE PROVISIONALLY QUALIFIED FOR
NCAAs
KUTZTOWN, PA
– Four members of the Kutztown University Track & Field team
have recorded provisional qualifying performances for the 2007
NCAA Division II Championships.
Kutztown’s athletes hope to represent the Golden
Bears at the championships, which will be held May 24-26 in
Charlotte, NC.
Steve Tyson
(jr.
Bridgeport/Upper Merion)
has a NCAA provisional throw in the shot put. At the Bucknell
Outdoor Classic this past weekend, Tyson threw 52-10 3/4. His
performance is currently 16th among Division II shot putters.
Desiree Bower (sr. Bethlel/Tulpehocken) has
qualified with a time of 11:19.50 in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. Bower’s time is
ranked 14th.
Stephanie Williams (jr. Harrisburg/Riverside) has
two qualifying runs, in the 5,000m and 10,000m. Her time of
37:22.21 in the 10,000 came at the Shamrock Invitational at
Coastal Carolina in March. In the 5,000, her time of 17:31.02
was at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. She ranks 11th in the 5K
and 21st in the 10K.
Renee Marchand (sr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) set a KU
record in the heptathlon as she provisionally qualified for
nationals with a 4,596 point performance at the Bucknell Outdoor
Classic. Her performance currently ranks 12th among Division II
heptathletes.
The Golden Bears have several opportunities remaining this
season to better their performances. Next up is the East
Stroudsburg Invitational this Saturday. Final selections for
NCAA representatives will be announced on May 15.

KU MEN’S TENNIS TEAMS READY FOR PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University men’s tennis team has
qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Championship tournament this Friday-Saturday at Bloomsburg
University.
The Golden Bears are the #1 seed in the PSAC. The top four men’s teams qualify.
Kutztown (8-2, 4-0 PSAC) will face fourth-seeded
East Stroudsburg (6-5, 1-3 PSAC) in Friday’s semifinal at 1:00
PM. KU defeated ESU earlier this season by a 9-0 score. The
Golden Bears are coached by Suresh Ramamurthi, who is in
his eighth season at the helm of KU’s tennis programs.
In the other men’s semifinal, second-seeded
Millersville (4-1, 3-1 PSAC) will take on third-seeded
Bloomsburg (7-6, 2-2 PSAC), also at 1:00 PM.
Championships and consolation matches are scheduled
for Saturday, at 10:00 AM.
The Golden Bear men’s tennis team will be looking
for its fourth straight PSAC title, as well as its seventh in
the last eight years. Kutztown completed its third-straight
undefeated PSAC schedule. KU did not lose a team point in any
of this year’s PSAC matches, including sweeps of the other three
conference playoff participants. The Golden Bears were ranked
#31 in nation in the April 7 Fila Division II National Rankings,
as well as #2 in the East Region. Millersville is ranked 10th
in the region,
KU is led by Santiago Baquerizo (so. Guayaquil,
ECUADOR), who holds a 14-3 record as KU’s #1 singles
player. Baquerizo, the #2 ranked player in the region and #32
in the nation, teams with Lukas Labitsch (so. Bruck an der
Mur, AUSTRIA) to form KU’s top doubles team. The pair,
ranked #1 ranked in the region and #6 in the nation, have a 13-2
record.
Labitsch is KU’s #2 singles player. Ranked
12th in the region, Labitsch has an 8-4 singles record. Newcomer
Gernot Gruss (fr. Rheinland Pfalz, GERMANY) holds a 7-3
record and is KU’s #3 singles player. Lukas Beman (sr.
Woodend, AUSTRALIA)
and Somdeep Appineni (Andhra Pradesh/INDIA) are Kutztown’s #4 and #5 singles players,
respectively. Beman has a 7-1 record while
Appineni holds a 7-5 record. Rubens Vianna (Belo Horizonte,
BRAZIL)
rounds out the singles play at #6. He is
9-3 this season.
Beman and Vianna team together for
KU’s #2 duo in doubles. They hold a 4-2 record. Appineni
and Gruss form Kutztown’s #3 doubles team with a 7-0
record.

DENLINGER,
ARBOGAST SWEEP PSAC SOFTBALL HONORS
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University players swept the weekly
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division
softball awards.
Steph Denlinger (so. Harleysville/Souderton) was named the
PSAC East Player of the Week, while Kaitlin Arbogast (fr.
Ambler/Wissahickon) was named PSAC East Pitcher of the
Week.
Denlinger, who wins the award for the fifth straight week,
went 8-for-17 (.471) with three home runs in an 8-0 week for
Kutztown. She had a 1.176 slugging percentage in the games,
knocking in 10 and scoring eight runs. Against Millersville,
Denlinger hit a pair of homers, giving her a PSAC record 20
dingers this season. The sophomore first baseman was also walked
12 times, setting a KU single-season record for bases on balls
with 31.
In
39 games played, Denlinger is hitting .467 (49-for-105) with 49
runs, 20 homers and 58 runs batted in. She has a whopping 1.133
slugging percentage and an on-base average of .574.
Arbogast recorded five of Kutztown's eight wins this week,
posting an ERA of 0.50. In 28 innings, she allowed four runs,
two earned, and struck out 35 batters. In a doubleheader
against Bloomsburg, Arbogast went the distance in game one
allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight. In game
two, Arbogast pitched three scoreless innings in relief to
record the win.
In
28 appearances this season, Arbogast has a 19-7 record with a
2.05 earned-run average in 170.1 innings pitched. She has 20
complete games and three shutouts, while striking out a KU
single-season record and PSAC-best 200 batters.
Kutztown, under the direction of head coach Judy Lawes,
is 31-13 overall and 13-1 in the PSAC East. The Golden Bears
have won a school record 13 straight games, and are winners of
22 of their last 23. KU returns to action on Wednesday when it
hosts East Stroudsburg for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 PM.

HONORED BY PSAC
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s Santiago Baquerizo (So,
Guayaquil, Ecuador) has been named the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player of the week.
In
KU’s only action last week, Baquerizo won both of his matches
against the number one singles and number one doubles of
Millersville by a count of 6-3, 6-0 and 8-3 respectively.
Baquerizo’s record now stands at 12-3 in singles play and 12-2
in doubles.
The
Golden Bears stand atop the PSAC standings with an 8-2 record,
4-0 in the PSAC.

KU
SOFTBALL TEAM HITTING HOME RUNS IN RECORD NUMBERS
Denlinger has set KU and PSAC homer records, leads Division
II in dingers
KUTZTOWN, PA – The high-powered Kutztown University softball team has
been hitting home runs in record numbers in 2007.
Kutztown, ranked #2 in the latest Mid-Atlantic Regional poll
released Wednesday, has hit 54 home runs as a team, tying the
program’s single-season record set last year. Prior to last
year, the most home runs the Golden Bears had hit in a season
was 30 in 2002.
A
total of 10 different players have gone yard in ’07 for KU, led
by first baseman Steph Denlinger (so. Harleysville/Souderton),
who has shattered the single-season and career home run records
midway through her second season.
Denlinger has 20 round-trippers this season, besting her school
record of 16 homers set last year, and breaking the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) single-season record of 19 set
last year by Lock Haven’s Courtney Hughes. Denlinger’s 36
career home runs are a KU career record, obliterating the
previous standard of 23 homers set by Kellie Evans (2000-03).
The PSAC career home run record stands at 56 (Erica Miller,
Bloomsburg, 1998-2001).
This season, Denlinger leads all NCAA Division II players in
home runs per game, hitting taters at a 0.57 per game clip (20
HR in 35 games). With 57 runs batted in and 118 total bases,
she is nearing KU’s single-season records for RBI (67, Jen
Schock in 1995) and total bases (131, Schock in 1995).
Short stop Ashley Fitzgerald (so. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection)
has 10 home runs and 18 for her career. Third baseman
Krista Cameron (so. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) has gone yard
nine times this year and 19 times in her career.
Rounding out KU’s home run hitters are OF Kim Morrison (so.
Newmarket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) (3 home runs), OF Sam
Flowers (jr. Harleysville/Souderton) (3), OF Adriane
Willmer (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) (2), DP Lindsay
Bennett (jr. Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) (2), DP Tami
Wambold (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) (2), DP Jennie
Lincoln (jr. Stafford, VA/North Stafford) (2) and C
Caitlin Hague (jr. Lansdale/North Penn) (1).
In
the most recent NCAA Statistics, Kutztown was ranked seventh in
home runs per game at 1.22. Since those rankings, KU has upped
its average to 1.35 taters per contest, which would have been
good for fifth in Division II.
In
addition to all the offense, KU’s received standout pitching
from newcomer Kaitlin Arbogast (fr. Ambler/Wissahickon).
Arbogast leads the PSAC with 182 strikeouts. She set
Kutztown’s single-season record for Ks against East Stroudsburg
on March 30, passing the previous mark of 130 (Tiffany Mattiuz,
1995).
Kutztown is 27-13 overall, 9-1 in the PSAC East. The Golden
Bears have won nine straight games and look to continue the hot
hitting on Friday when they host Mansfield for a doubleheader at
2:30 PM. KU then travels to Bloomsburg, ranked #3 in the region
and 16th in the country for a twinbill on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
On Monday, KU heads to defending NCAA Champion Lock Haven,
ranked #1 in the region and country, for a doubleheader at 2:30
PM.

DENLINGER
NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KUTZTOWN, PA – For the fourth straight week, Kutztown University’s
Steph Denlinger (so. Harleysville/Souderton HS) has been
named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern
Division Player of the week.
Denlinger again continued her
impressive performance at the plate in a 4-0 week for Kutztown.
The sophomore collected seven hits in 12 at-bats (.583 avg),
recording 15 RBIs and seven runs. Her best performance came
against Shippensburg, where she was 5-for-7 with 10 RBIs,
including three home runs and seven RBIs in a perfect day at the
plate in game two.
Through 31 games played, Denlinger is hitting .466
(41-for-88) with a single-season school record 17 home runs.
She has 48 RBI and a whopping 1.125 slugging percentage.
Kutztown is 23-13 overall, 5-1 in the PSAC East this
season. The Golden Bears are in action Monday afternoon with a
doubleheader at West Chester.
KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY 56th IN DIRECTORS’ CUP AFTER WINTER SEASON
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University is in 56th
place in the Directors’ Cup at the completion of the winter
sports season.
The Sports Academy Directors’ Cup was
developed as a joint effort between the National Association of
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
The United State Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is
the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each
institution’s finish at NCAA Championships in up to 14 sports –
seven women’s and seven men’s.
Grand Valley State remains in first.
UC San Diego stays in second while Adams State moved into
third. Colorado School of Mines is ahead of Kutztown in 55th
place. Alaska Anchorage is in 57th.
West Chester leads the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools, moving up to 14th
place. Indiana (PA) remains in 24th, Lock Haven fell
to 25th and Bloomsburg is now 26th.
Edinboro is 45th, Clarion 53rd. Following
KU is Shippensburg in 64th and Slippery Rock in 86th.
Highlights from the winter season
included wrestler Joe Kemmerer (jr.
Mountaintop/Crestwood HS) winning the NCAA Division II 133
lb. Championship and Ashley Singer (jr. Lititz/Warwick)
competing at the NCAA Division II swimming championships.

BASEBALL 4th IN LATEST DIVISION II POLL
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University’s baseball team continued its climb in the
NCAA Division II national rankings, moving up to fourth in this
week’s Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.
The ranking marks a one-spot improvement from fifth last week,
which had been the highest-ever national ranking for head coach
Chris Blum’s Golden Bears.
California State-Los Angeles (28-3-1) is ranked #1, followed by
Tampa (29-6), Ouachita Baptist (34-3) and KU (21-2). Central
Missouri State (28-5) is ranked fifth. Last week’s #4 team,
Georgia College and State University (30-9) dropped to #10.
West Chester (13-6) and Slippery Rock (14-8) are tied for 30th
as the only other teams from the North Atlantic Region in the
rankings.
Also this week, Kutztown remained atop the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association North Atlantic Regional poll. West
Chester, Slippery Rock and West Virginia State round out the top
four in that poll. KU was ranked #6 in last week’s NCBWA
national poll.
The
NCBWA regional poll is different from the official NCAA regional
rankings, which determine participants in the NCAA
Championships. The NCAA regional rankings will begin being
announced in mid-April.
Kutztown hosts non-conference foe Adelphi on Thursday at 3:30
PM, before hosting East Stroudsburg on Friday in a Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader at 1:00
PM.

DENLINGER
IS PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT TIME
KUTZTOWN, PA – For the third-straight week, Kutztown University’s
Steph Denlinger (so. Harleysville/Souderton) has been named
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern
Division Player of the Week.
Denlinger continued her hot streak at the plate in a 3-1 week
for Kutztown. She rapped out seven hits in nine at bats (.778
avg), popping three home runs and a double. Her on-base
percentage of .857 was aided by five walks, three intentional,
and she also added five RBI.
Through 27 games played, Denlinger is hitting .447 (34-of-76)
with 33 RBI and 12 home runs. Adding seven doubles to the mix,
Denlinger has a whopping 1.013 slugging percentage (77 total
bases in 76 at-bats). She has scored 31 runs and walked 16
times.
Kutztown is 19-13, winners of 10 of its last 11 games. The
Golden Bears are in Indiana (PA) for a doubleheader Monday,
before returning to PSAC East action at Shippensburg on
Wednesday.
