DENNIS EARNS PSAC EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University’s Stephen Dennis (fr. West
Chester/Henderson) was named the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Rookie of the Week.
Dennis
averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, as Kutztown went
1-1 in crossover contests. His top effort was a 14-point,
seven-rebound outing in a double-overtime win at Slippery Rock
on Tuesday.
This is Dennis’ third Rookie of the Week award already this
season, having previous been recognized on Nov. 28 and Dec. 11.
Along with teammate Nate Edwards, who was
honored on Dec. 4, KU has earned all four PSAC East Rookie of
the Week awards this season.
For the season, Dennis is averaging 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds
through 10 games. Kutztown is 8-2 and returns to action on Jan.
3 at Penn State-Berks.

KUTZTOWN
UNIVERSITY TO BEGIN SEARCH FOR HEAD WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH
KUTZTOWN, PA –
Kutztown University Director of Athletics Greg Bamberger has
announced the beginning of a search for a new head women’s soccer
coach for the Golden Bears.
The
search will locate a replacement for Jeff Schellenberger, who
resigned effective March 2, 2007, to pursue other opportunities.
“We
thank Jeff Schellenberger for his years of service to Kutztown
University,” Bamberger said. “He leaves the women’s soccer program
with a very bright outlook. We wish him the best of luck in his
future endeavors.”
Schellenberger coached the Golden Bears for 12 seasons over two
stints at Kutztown. He was KU’s coach from 1989-91 before returning
to the school in 1998. Schellenberger finishes with a 97-107-16
career record, including a mark of 86-75-14 since his return in
1998. Since 2003, Kutztown has compiled a 52-26-9 record and made
four straight appearances in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Playoffs, including berths in the championship game in
2004 and 2005.
Schellenberger was the sixth head coach since the program was
instituted in 1984. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology
from Randolph-Macon (VA) College in 1984. In 1992, he completed a
master’s degree in sport and recreation management at Temple
University.
“I’m
very happy with the success achieved by the women’s soccer program
at KU, as one of the top programs in the conference,” Schellenberger
said. “I wish the team and the KU athletic department well.”
The
national search for Schellenberger’s replacement will begin
immediately.

TWO GOLDEN BEARS RECEIVE PSAC HONORS
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s Stephen Dennis (West
Chester/Henderson) and Lara Dellegrotti (so. Berwick/Berwick)
received Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) basketball
honors.
Dennis received his second PSAC Men’s Rookie of
the Week for the eastern division. He tied for a team-high 26
points in the lone game this week against Columbia Union. He went
9-for-10 from the free throw line. Dennis also had four assists and
three blocks.
Dellegrotti
was named the PSAC East Women’s Player of the Week. She averaged
13.5 points in the Golden Bears two wins. Dellegrotti shot 47.1%
from the field and hit six shots from behind the arc. She led with
team with 16 points over Columbia Union. In the win over Lincoln,
Dellegrotti pulled in a double-double with 11 points and 11
rebounds.
The
Golden Bears will return to action on December 19 when they travel
to Slippery Rock.

HOFFMAN NAMED
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COACH OF THE YEAR
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s women’s cross country head coach
Ray Hoffman was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) Coach of the Year.
Hoffman had four runners earn earned All-Conference and
All-Region honors this season. The team finished second at the PSAC
Championships and brought home its first-ever East Regional Title.
The team traveled to Pensacola, FL for the NCAA Championships and
finished a best-ever 14th of 24 teams.
This is
the second time Hoffman has been named the PSAC Women’s Coach
of the Year. His first honor was in 2000.
The ninth-year head coach was also named
East Region Women’s Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field
and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last month.

EDWARDS NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s Nate Edwards
(Philadelphia/North Catholic) has been named the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Rookie of the Week
for men’s basketball.

EDWARDS |
Edwards averaged 10.0 points per game, connecting on three
three-pointers, in a 3-0 week for the Golden Bears. He scored a
team high 13 points in a 55-53 win over the University of the
Sciences. He had two perfect games from the free throw line and
missed only one in the third to go 9-for-10. He notched 11 steals
and seven rebounds.
The
Golden Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to
the Columbia Union. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM
