NAPOLI JOINS UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE-MARTIN AS ASSISTANT COACH

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Rachel Napoli, a graduate assistant for the last two seasons with the Kutztown University women’s soccer program, was named the assistant coach of the University of Tennessee-Martin women's soccer team on July 3.

Napoli joins the Skyhawks after two years at KU, where she helped lead the Golden Bears to a 20-14-6 record and a semifinal appearance in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament in 2006.

"Although we will miss Rachel dearly, we are very excited for her as she takes the next step in her coaching career," KU head coach Erik Burstein said. "Rachel was a fantastic coach at KU and I am positive she will be a huge asset to the entire Tennessee-Martin athletic department."

Napoli came to Kutztown after completing a stellar playing career at Wheeling Jesuit University. Napoli was a four-time West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-star, earning a spot on the first team from 2003-05. In each of those three seasons, Napoli was named to second-team all-region honors as a midfielder.

TICE JOINS DEETER AS CO-CAPTAIN FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Kutztown University head women’s soccer coach Erik Burstein announced that midfielder Jen Tice (so. Barnegat/Southern Regional) will join centerback Chelsea Deeter (so. Langorne/Neshaminy) as the team's co-captains for the 2008 season.

Tice replaces Angela Corrado (jr. Kutztown/Kutztown) as co-captain. Corrado, who had 11 career goals, five game-winners, was a team captain last season. Playing with a back injury that will force Corrado to miss the 2008 season, she started in 12 games in 2007, scoring six goals for the Golden Bears.

Deeter is coming off a solid year for the Golden Bears. Starting in 18 games as a redshirt-freshman, she anchored a defensive unit that recorded six shutouts. She was selected to the All-PSAC first team.

“As with Chelsea, this was a very easy decision for me. Jen will be a great role model for our younger players and her work rate is something I believe will make a lasting impression on everyone in our program. She just keeps working harder every day. It’s fantastic.

“Chelsea and Jen will certainly play a major role in molding what I believe is a very bright future for our women’s soccer program.”

The Golden Bears will welcome a young team to camp in August, and Tice and Deeter will be called upon to help build the future.

KU finished the 2007 campaign with a 10-6-3 record, the sixth straight 10-plus-win season for the Golden Bears.
