Desiree Bower - W. Track & Field

       Desiree Bower, of the women’s track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Bower earned All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  She placed eighth in the event with a time of 10:56.19.  She broke her own school record in the preliminaries (10:55.36). 


3/12      Joe Kemmerer, of the wrestling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Kemmerer won the NCAA Division II 133 lb. Championship at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  Kemmerer claimed the title with a 1-0 decision in the finals. He is Kutztown’s first-ever wrestling national champion, the fifth Golden Bear athlete in school history to win an NCAA title, and just the third male athlete to do so.

3/19      Ashley Singer, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Singer set two school records and had two honorable mention All-America performances at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY.  She set a school record in the 1000 free (10:42.18) and in the 200 free (1:53.35).

3/26     Steph Denlinger, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Denlinger set Kutztown’s career home run record in KU’s 11-1 win over Grand Valley State.  She passes Kellie Evans, who had 23 home runs from 2000-2003.  Denlinger shattered KU’s single-season record with 16 dingers last year.  In the Golden Bears’ 5-0 weekend, Denlinger hit .467 with three home runs, three doubles and six RBI.  She has nine long-balls  and 23 RBI so far this season.

4/2       Jeff Craig, of the baseball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Craig hit .471 (8-for-17) in a 5-0 week for KU.  Hit had six RBI and a home run.  Against Millersville, Craig hit .462 (6-for-13) and had three RBI.

4/9      Steph Denlinger, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Denlinger hit five home runs in a 4-0 week and set the KU record for home runs in a season with 17.  She had set the record last season with 16.  Denlinger hit .583, knocked in 15 runs and scored seven runs in the four games.  Three of her long balls came in a 10-1 at Shippensburg.

4/16    Kaitlin Arbogast, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Arbogast went 5-0 in a 8-0 week for the softball team.  In 28 innings, she struck out 35 batters.  She allowed only four runs, two earned, to finish with a 0.50 ERA. 

4/23     Jason Mills, of the baseball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Mills pitched a complete game shutout in a 5-0 win against Bloomsburg.  He struck out six in the extra inning contest.

4/30     Steve Tyson, of the track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Tyson set the school record and placed first in the shot put at the Lehigh Games.  Tyson tossed the shot 54-1 inch, bettering the previous record of 53-5 1/2 by Mike Fantanarosa in 1994.  It was the third oldest men's outdoor field mark in the record book.  The performance was also an NCAA provisional effort.  Tyson also placed sixth at the Penn Relays in the shot put with a throw of 52-7 1/2.

5/7        Renee Marchand, of the track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Marchand won the heptathlon and set a KU record with 4,698 points.  She won four of the seven events.  She placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 18-1, one inch short of the KU record (Andrea Sellitti, 2001).   Marchand was seventh in the 100 hurdles (15.35) was a member of the fourth place 4x400 relay team.

5/14     Steph Denlinger, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Denlinger hit .667 in three games of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional.  She hit her 24th home run of the season.  Denligner had six hits, five runs scored, four RBI and two walks.

5/21     Ryan Loper, of the baseball team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Loper hit .471 (8-for-17) with five runs and six RBI to lead KU to the North Atlantic Regional championship.  Loper was named the tournament's MVP.

5/30     Desiree Bower, of the women’s track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Bower earned All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  She placed eighth in the event with a time of 10:56.19.  She broke her own school record in the preliminaries (10:55.36).
