Past KU Student Bookstore Athletes of the Week

8/27 - Kim Kelty, of the women’s soccer team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Kelty scored a goal and recorded two assists as KU opened the season with a 4-1 win over Lock Haven Saturday. Her goal at the 60:58 mark stood up as the game-winner. She also assisted on an insurance goal two minutes later. 

9/4 - Nicole Biuso, of the women’s soccer team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Biuso set the school record for digs in a match with 46 against Anderson (S.C.) Saturday at the Shippensburg Raider Classic. Her 46 digs, along with her 13 against St. Rose, pushed her career total to 1,498, also a school record. Biuso’s play at libero helped lead the Golden Bears to a 5-0 record. She averaged 20 digs per match, while collecting nine service aces.

9/10 - Kelley Healey, of the field hockey team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Healey finished the week with five goals and five assists in four games, helping KU defeat PSAC East foe Shippensburg and win the Joshua W. Wesner Memorial Tournament. Healey scored two goals against Shippensburg as KU rallied in the final 15 minutes for a 3-1 win.

9/17 - Cory Porrino, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Porrino, a defensive back, made a day out of keeping Shippensburg out of the end zone Saturday in the Golden Bears’ 28-16 win at University Field. Porrino stopped two Red Raider drives with an interception and a pass breakup in the end zone. He also had eight tackles, one for a loss, in the win. 

9/24 - Katie Miller, of the women’s volleyball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Miller notched 55 kills last week as KU went 5-0 with four wins at the East Stroudsburg Tournament and a 3-1 win over PSAC foe Millersville. Against Millersville, Miller had 17 kills, helping the Golden Bears overcome a game two loss. Miller also had 16 kills against Bryant and another 10 against Bridgeport.

10/1 -  Kyle Spotts, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Spotts completed 17-of-24 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns in KU’s 55-20 rout of American International University. Spotts had three touchdown passes in the first half as KU jumped out to a 41-7 lead, and he added a school-record 88-yard touchdown pass to in the third quarter.

10/8 -  Santiago Baquerizo, of the men’s tennis team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Baquerizo won two PSAC titles at the PSAC Individual Championships in Shippensburg on Saturday and Sunday. He won the singles title Sunday in straight sets, defeating teammate Lukas Labitsch, who he teamed with to win the doubles title Saturday.

10/15 - Krista Tressler, of the women’s golf team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Tressler finished atop the leaderboard at the Hofsrta Invitational with a two-day score of 163. Tressler had an 81 on Friday and an 82 Saturday as she helped KU finish in first place. Her score Friday set a school record for a par-70 course.

10/22 - Austin Kinney, of the women’s volleyball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Kinney recorded 199 assists and 78 digs in four matches last week, including a 3-2 comeback win over PSAC East foe West Chester. Kinney had 58 assists and five service aces in the win. She set the career record in assists with 3,188 (Yvonne Shimp, 1994-97).

10/29 -  Staci McGinty, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. McGinty placed first in two individual events, the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, in a win over Ramapo College. She also took first in the 200 medley relay at 1:56.94. McGinty finished the 200 freestyle in 2:03.84 and the 100 in 57.74 seconds.

11/5 - Steph Williams, of the women’s cross country team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Williams finished second at the NCAA Division II East Regionals in Lock Haven, Pa., Saturday. Named an All-Region runner for finishing in the top 15, Williams completed the 6K race in 21:28. She, along with teammate Joanna Horstmann, will compete at the NCAA Division II Championships on Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.

11/12 - Kyle Spotts, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Spotts helped KU defeat Millersville 26-23 in triple overtime. He ran for the game-winning touchdown, which was one of his three rushing scores. He also was 15-for-34 passing for 147 yards.

11/19 - Ashley Singer, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. She set a pool record at Misericordia while placing first in nine events last week. Her 10:51.36 in the 1,000-yard freestyle set the pool record at the Anderson Center where she led KU to a 109-92 win Wednesday. Her seven first-place victories Saturday helped KU finish first at the Golden Bear Invitational.

11/26 - Stephen Dennis, of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Dennis scored 18 points in KU’s 77-70 win over Wilmington last week. He made 6-of-8 free throws, while recording five assists and four steals. He also had eight rebounds.

12/3 - Steph Jeppesen, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Jeppesen finished first in six events at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational, including three individual first-place finishes. She also set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.76. Her other individual wins came in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.

12/10 - Rachel Weidensaul, of the women’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Weidensaul finished with 32 points in two games, 16 in each as KU defeated Columbia Union and Penn State-Berks last week to improve to 5-3. Weidensaul also recorded nine rebounds and five assists in the two wins.

12/20 - Stephen Dennis, of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Dennis tied his career-high of 30 points against Edinboro and scored another 17 points against Slippery Rock as KU went 1-1 in back-to-back PSAC crossover contests. Dennis also recorded 15 rebounds, five steals and four blocks in the two-game span.

1/7 - Dave Ben, of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Ben scored 16 points at Chesnut Hill to become the  18th player in KU history to score 1,000 career points. He followed up his record-breaking performance with a double-double at Keystone Hall in a rout of Indiana (Pa.) Ben had 21 points and 11 rebounds. He also had 11 points in Sunday’s loss to Clarion.

1/14 - Kayla Stamm, of the women’s bowling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Stamm averaged a 213 over five games Saturday with a high game of 249. She helped KU go 9-1 at the St. Francis New Year Knock Down. Stamm, the MVP of the tournament, along with being named to the all-tournament team.

1/22 -  Stephen Dennis, of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Dennis averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in two PSAC East wins for KU last week. He scored 27 points in a home victory over Mansfield, which marked his fifth straight game with 20 or more points. 

1/28 - James Dart, of the men's indoor track & field team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week.  Dart set Kutztown’s school record in the shot put with a distance of 54-2, breaking the previous record of 53-7 set by Josh Himmelberger (1998).   Dart also placed third in the 35-lb. Weight throw at Bucknell.

2/4 - Steph Jeppesen, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Jeppesen won three events, including two individual events as KU won at Rowan. Jeppesen won the 200 individual medley (2:14.86) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.50), while helping the 200 medley relay team finish first.

2/11 - Dave Ben, of the men’s basketball, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Ben scored a career-high 32 points in a comeback win against East Stroudsburg and had another 16 points, including the game-deciding 3-pointer with 1:05 left, in a comeback win against West Chester.

2/18 - Jim Dart, of the men’s indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Dart placed first in the 35-pound weight throw and set a school record in the shot put with his second-place throw of 55-1. It was also a field house record.

2/25 - Ashley Singer, of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Singer won the 500-yard freestyle title at the PSAC Championships while setting a school record in the 100 freestyle by leading off the 400 free relay with a time of 52.70. She also placed third in the 200 free (1:54.85) and sixth in the open 100 free (52.88).

3/3 - Cody Hartlzer, of the men’s indoor track and field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Hartzler set a school record and won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title in the high jump with his mark of  6-10 1/4 Sunday. His jump also was an NCAA provisional mark.

3/10 - Chad Lightcap, of the baseball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Lightcap went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored in the Golden Bears’ 8-6 win Sunday against West Liberty State. He also scored a run in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Armstrong State.

3/17 - Ashley Fitzgerald, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Fitzgerald led the Golden Bears to eight wins during spring break, batting .467 (14-for-30) with four home runs, three doubles, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored. Her slugging percentage in KU’s eight straight wins last week was .967.

 

3/24 - Krista Cameron, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Cameron went 7-for-14 while starting in all five games at the Salem Invitational. She finished with three doubles, a home run, seven RBIs and four runs scored. The junior infielder also had a perfect tournament in the field, with a 1.000 fielding percentage, two putouts and 11assists. 

 

3/31 - Steph Denlinger, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Denlinger helped KU to a 6-0 record last week, including 4-0 in PSAC East games, with her 12 RBIs. She went a combined 5-for-14 (.357) with two doubles and two homers. Her five walks pushed her on-base percentage up to .500 for the week. Denlinger had a grand slam in a 9-0 win over Millersville Friday, and her six RBIs in the game gave her the school record for RBIs in a career.

 

4/7 - Jim Dart, of the men’s outdoor track and field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Dart won two events at the PSAC East Challenge Saturday, placing first in the shot put (52-1) and the discus (147-1) to lead the way for the Golden Bears. His throw in the shot put was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He also placed fourth in the hammer throw (153-2).

 

4/14 - Carrie Healey, of the women’s lacrosse team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Healey, the Golden Bears’ leading scored, notched five goals and two assists in KU’s first home victory of the season, and first since the program was restored to varsity status this year. Healey also had nine caused turnovers on the defensive side of the ball.

 

4/21 - Darin Gorski, of the baseball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Gorski tossed a seven-inning shutout win against East Stroudsburg Saturday as KU won 2-0. He limited the Warriors to just three hits for his seventh win of the season. He struck out seven and walked none.
