Hey everyone,
We arrived safely into Sydney Kingston airport around 6:30 am on
Friday May 21. The flight was long but fun. Both teams were in
and out of customs with minimal stopping, though we did have to have
the dirt cleaned from sticks and cleats (to remove any chemicals).
We met our tour guides, Travis and Jon, at the airport and they
swept us off to show us some of the sights. The guys gave us a
driving tour of the city, and then
took us to lunch overlooking Bondi beach.
We then checked into our apartment-like hotel. Later we saw some of
the University of Syndney's campus. We hadn't slept all day so it was
an early night (a
little disappointing to some of us, as most of you can imagine).
Today we are back into downtown Sydney for a closer tour of the
city. We will be seeing the Sydney Opera House and hitting some of
the shops to pick up some of
those greatly anticipated souvenirs.
Tomorrow we will be flying out to the Golden Coast for our first
competitions.
We miss you all and can't wait to tell you all about our adventures
here in Australia.
Love,

Greetings from the Gold Coast!
We arrived here by plane early afternoon yesterday
(Sunday May 23). Thankfully it was much shorter than
the flights from the US.
Here is a brief recap of the second day in Sydney. We
went to the Sydney Opera House, which proved both
interesting and educational. We then went to 'The
Rocks,' an open market and we all started our
shopping. Then we headed back to the hotel and later
that evening we went to see the nightlife in Sydney.
We went to a club called the Three Wise Monkeys; it
was as fun as it sounds!
Since arriving in the Gold Coast, we have done some
sight-seeing and some relaxing. We had our first part
of the Down Under Challenge, which tested our physical
abilities and tomorrow's part tests our mental
abilities. Our hotel is directly on the beach, so as
you can imagine we are taking full advantage of that
as well.
Tonight we have our first game about two hours away,
under the lights.
We are thinking of all of you and wish you were here!
We miss you!
Love,

G'day
Mates
Here's
the final entry in our tour diary, the time has flown so
fast that we can't believe we are headed home today.
We only had four games, but they were great efforts by all.
All four games were held close to our accommodations in
Surfer's Paradise. KU went 1-3 in Australia.
Game 1 4-0 loss
Game 2 4-0 Win
Game 3
5-2 loss
Game 4
9-0 loss*
* We
faced the best competition in this game because this team
had members of the gold medal Olympic team on it.
While on the Gold Coast we took part in some activities that
most of us have never done, like surfing. We liked the
introductory course so much that we decided to make a second
day of it, and enjoyed some fish and chips afterwards. We
went to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and fed kangaroos
and had our pictures taken with koalas.
We
then flew to Cairns, our final destination in Australia. We
were a little disappointed in the cloudy weather but that
did not stop us from going to the beach and doing that last
bit of shopping. The Great Barrier Reef was amazing, we saw
so many different sea creatures from sharks to sting rays to
turtles that we were in awe. The only disappointment of
going to the Reef was the rough waters we had to travel to
get back to land, looking back we should have brought some
dramamine!
Our
final day in Cairns was a free day where some went
white-water rafting while others went to a rainforest and
still others went to shops in town. Everyone has had a
wonderful time in Australia, thanks to our helpful and
comedic tour guides Travis and Jon, who did all they could
to ensure that our trip was a memorable one.
Today we bid a fond farewell to Australia in hopes that one
day we will return to its beautiful shores. We recommend
that if you have the chance come here it is an amazing
place.
See you all very soon!
Cheers
