INDIANA, Pa. - Bloomsburg University
used two first-half goals to defeat Kutztown, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Semifinal Friday
afternoon.
The
Huskes opened the scoring at the 11:27 mark on an unassisted goal by
Jamie VanArtsdalen. Anne Waapu evened the score just
over two minutes later when she scored on a penalty corner pass from
Alyssa Maltese.
Bloomsburg netted the game winner at
the 23:22 mark of the first half when Brieann Wolfe scored an
unassisted goal.
Waapu narrowly missed a
potential tying goal with 11 minutes left in the game when her
penalty corner shot hit the post.
Bloomsburg's Allison Ziants had two
saves in net for the Huskies, who improve to 18-3. Bloomsburg
faces the winner of Friday's second semifinal between Indiana and
Shippensburg. The Championship game is on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Sam Flowers recorded five
saves in the cage for Kutztown, which falls to 17-4 on the season.
KU now awaits a possible berth in the
NCAA playoffs. The Golden Bears were ranked #3 in the latest
regional rankings. The top three teams in both the north and
south regions qualify for the NCAA tournament. The selections
are scheduled to be announced on Monday.
