— Indiana University of Pennsylvania scored two first-half goals en route to
a 2-1 win over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field
hockey semifinal at Bloomsburg University Friday afternoon.
IUP, 15-1, will
face the winner of the Bloomsburg-Shippensburg game, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for the PSAC championship. Kutztown falls to
13-6 with the loss.
IUP's Irma Bakker opened the scoring at the 22:41
mark with an unassisted goal. less than three minutes later,
Shannon Sullivan scored off a penalty corner pass from Jess Frantz.
KU got on the scoreboard at the 50:51 mark in the
second half when
Anne Waapu (so. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) scored
unassisted off a penalty corner. That was the last shot on
goal for the Golden Bears, however, as IUP's defense clamped down to
hold on for the 2-1 win.
Emily Falko (fr. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had one save,
facing just five Crimson Hawk shots. IUP keeper Lydia Dolly
had two saves, facing six shots.
