KU (45-10) got
the bats going early with one out in the home half of the
first, as Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge)
singled and Steph Denlinger (jr. Harleysville/Souderton)
hit a two-run homer over the right-field fence to give KU the
2-0 lead.
The next batter, Ashley Fitzgerald
(Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection), followed Denlinger’s blast
with one of her own, a solo homer over the right-center-field
fence to extend the lead to 3-0.
Denlinger’s
homer, her 56th of her career, tied the PSAC career record for
home runs set by Erica Miller
(1998-’01), of Bloomsburg.
East
Stroudsburg
threatened in the top of the fifth, as Brittany Racek had a
one-out base
hit, but KU hurler Katlin Arbogast
(so. Ambler/Wissahickon) struck out the next two batters to
work out of the potential jam.
In the bottom
of the fifth, KU had a chance to add to its lead as Kathy Gregg (sr.
Narvon/Garden Spot) led off the inning with a base hit and
advanced to third on sacrifices by Kim Morrison (jr.
Newmarket, ONTARIO/Sir William Mulock) and Schiavo. Warriors
pitcher Kristen Halvorsen, however, was able to work out of trouble,
getting Denlinger to fly out to right field.
In the top of
the seventh, East Stroudsburg tried to rally as
Candice Pastor singled with one out, but Arbogast struck out Eliza Morosco and
got Kara Darcey to ground out to end the
contest.
With the win,
Arbogast picks up her 23rd victory of the season. She scattered four hits and struck out eight in the complete
game victory.
Halvorsen (14-16) took the loss for
East Stroudsburg.

play Lock Haven at 2:30
