KUTZTOWN, PA – Lock Haven recorded a 3-0 win over
Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal
Women’s Soccer playoff game at Keystone Field Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Eagles, the #6 seed in the playoffs, advance to
face West Chester, #2, in Friday’s Semifinal at West Chester.
Kutztown, the #3 seed, is eliminated from the playoffs.
Lock Haven got on the board 15:56 into the first half Kimberly
Thompson knocked in a rebound after a scramble in front of the net.
Holly Homsher's initial shot off a corner kick was blocked
by KU defender Lindsay Will. Thompson
took the rebound and put it in for the first score of the game.
At the 26:51 mark, Joanna Bisphan connected on a penalty kick past
KU keeper Mandi Johnsen, after Kutztown was whistled for a hand ball in
the goalkeeper’s box.
The Lady Eagles added an insurance goal at the 76:10 mark, when Jennifer
Meassick took Homsher’s crossing pass and booted it in the right
side of the goal past a diving Johnsen.
LHU outshot Kutztown 9-6. Goalkeeper
Brandie Kessler had one save for The Lady Eagles, as did Johnsen
for KU.
It was Kutztown’s first shutout loss of the season, and the first time
KU has been held off the board since a 0-0 tie against Philadelphia University
on September 11.
