1. Welcome

• Dr. Lynch welcomed everyone to the meeting and new committee members were introduced.

2. Approval of Minutes of March 12, 2003

• Randy Schaeffer moved, Paul Sable seconded, to approve the Minutes of the March 12, 2003 meeting. The motion passed.

3. College Meetings

• Purpose of the college meetings is to discuss the proposed mission and goals.
• It was decided that Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 would be the best time to hold the college meetings. Committee members should attend the meetings.
• Donna Trabosh will work on scheduling the meetings.

4. Update on Web Page

• Dr. Lynch reported that the web page has not yet been set up.
• Because of the importance of the campus community being informed of what is happening with the general education process, Dr. Lynch will talk to Matt McKernan about giving the password to Professor Schaeffer so that he can begin to set up the web page.

5. Mission Statement

• Discussed the various mission statements submitted by committee members and began working on a new general education mission statement.
• Dr. Lynch asked committee members to review the draft mission statement that will be forwarded to them in the near future via email. In addition, she asked committee members to compose and forward to Donna via email a sentence to be added to the mission statement about the unique characteristics of KU.

6. Goals

Dr. Lynch asked committee members to begin writing goals and to forward them to Donna who will send them to committee members in time for next week’s meeting. The goals will then be discussed at next week’s meeting.

The next meeting of the General Education Restructuring Committee will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 312 of the Student Union Building.
