1. Approval of Minutes of May 28, 2003

• Kevin McCloskey moved, Paul Sable seconded, to approve the Minutes of the May 28, 2003 meeting. It was noted that "through the curriculum process" should be added after "faculty" in the third bulleted item under Goals.
• The Minutes of May 28, 2003 were approved as amended.

2. Review of Goals

• The goals as prepared by the individual groups at our previous meeting were distributed and reviewed. Changes were made to the wording for some of the goals and Dr. Lynch indicated that the committee will work on the remaining goals at its next meeting.
• The committee decided to add Attitudes for Success as an additional goal. Therefore, the goals now include critical thinking, communication, engagement with the world, ethical issues and social responsibility, and attitudes for success.

3. Other

• Congratulations was extended to Janice Chernekoff on receiving tenure.
• The following documents were distributed to committee members:
  • Teaching Grammar Doesn’t Lead to Better Writing
  • A Map of Writing in Terms of Audience and Response
  • Minimal Marking
• Dr. Lynch asked committee members to review the revised Mission
• Statement and remaining Goals for next week’s meeting. She also asked committee members to begin looking at models from other institutions for next week’s meeting.

The next meeting of the General Education Restructuring Team will be held on Wednesday, June 11, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 6 of the Library.
