The effects of loci and control on depression in older adults

John S. Burnett, Justin Trupp (Kutztown University of Pennsylvania)

Depression is a serious concern in the geriatric population. Studies operationalizing control have stated that as an elderly individual loses control over what they can do, they experience more depression. In this study, older adults from the community and an assisted living facility were given two depression scales with additional questions on control. Preliminary analysis of the data suggests a significant difference between depression levels in older adults, while their perceived control stayed constant.
