EASTER ON THE FARM
Saturday April 4th, 2009
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Presented by the
Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center
At
Kutztown University
Each year, Herr
Rabbit, the face of Eastertide traditions, makes his way to the
Heritage Center for the annual Easter on the Farm celebration. This
free event will take place Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be plenty
of activities for people of all ages. In the one-room school house,
the School Marm will present a program that features Pennsylvania
German Eastertide traditions, with singing in the PA German dialect
and a Pysanky demonstration.
In the farm
house, artisans will demonstrate their crafts and offer them for
sale. Spinning and weaving demonstrations will also take place.
There will be traditionally decorated Easter eggs and Easter baskets
for sale as well. Open-hearth cooking will be featured in the
kitchen, and there will be free food samples. Newly hatched chicks
will also make an appearance in the house, and children can learn to
dye their very own Easter eggs.
In the summer kitchen,
enjoy some home-made fastnachts, and then walk over to the log
cabins to visit the Pennsylvania German Society in the Zimmerman
cabin, and the Guild of Craftsmen selling their crafts in the
Corrigan cabin.
Guests may visit the ladies of the
Old Time Plow Boys for food and beverages at a reasonable price.
There will be goats,
sheep and traditional farm activities going on outside on the
grounds. Children can make a paper Easter basket and go on an egg
hunt. They may also help decorate the Egg tree.
There will be
something for everyone at Easter on the Farm. Admission and Parking
are free. The Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center is
located on Luckenbill Road off Main Street in Kutztown. Luckenbill
Road is almost diagonally across from the Kutztown Airport. For more
