Craftsman Spring Fine Art & Crafts Festival
The Reading-Berks & Lehigh Valley Chapters of
the Guild host their Festival at Kutztown
University Field House**. Come see a wonderful
selection of artisans, music and food. There
will also be arts and crafts available for sale..

Special Program
Pennsylvania
German Heritage Crafts Day (preregistration required by April 9, 2010)
A Partnership program of Reading Berks Guild of Craftsmen, Kutztown
University, Northampton Community College and the Pennsylvania German
Cultural Heritage Center.
Teaming up to keep the
skills and appreciation of
the Pennsylvania German
crafts alive and well in
this second year of
workshops at the Heritage
Center at Kutztown
University.
New Workshops this year are Open Hearth Cooking and an
introduction to Pennsylvania German dialect. Workshops returning
this year are Fiber Art, Fraktur Art, Penny Rugs, Pressed Floral Art,
Redware Pottery, Straw and Wheat Weaving, and Tole Painting. All classes are
taught by recognized experts in their field. Classes are held
at the center, a restored
Pennsylvania German farm site of home, barn, related buildings and a 19"
century one room school house. Each
craft will be taught in a surrounding similar to where it probably was
taught long-ago. Tuition includes a
hearty box lunch and tour of the center buildings.

Heritage Center Quilting Party

Association Show
The Pennsylvania
German Cultural Heritage Center in partnership
with the Allentown Art Museum is celebrating the
Quilt. The weekend of August 14th and
15th, 2010 we will be hosting a
quilting party in the farm house. We will have
two quilt frames set up, one for beginners and
one for more accomplished stitchers. On Saturday
August 14th, Becky Manley, KU alum
’82 will be cooking in the kitchen. On Sunday,
Edna White, (representing the “Stitchers of
Faith”), will be joining us with her Underground
Railroad Quilt and handmade sewing objects. We
will be selling lemonade and angel food cake in
the kitchen. The Old Time plow Boys and PABA
will also be holding their regularly scheduled
annual events this same weekend. Come visit us
for an event packed weekend sure to please
anyone!

Heritage Harvest Fescht
Come greet the arrival of fall with our annual
Pennsylvania Dutch Harvest celebration. This fun
filled and educational event features activities
that are great for the entire family. Learn
about life on a Pennsylvania German farm with
living history demonstrations of a wide variety
of farm life activities. Venture inside our
historic farmhouse and summer kitchen to watch
as historic foodways and crafts are brought back
to life. Make sure to visit all of our children
craft activities including scarecrow making and
pumpkin painting. Be sure to also visit our
affiliate organizations the Reading-Berks Guild
of Craftsmen and the Old Time Plow Boys that
will be helping to make this event a success. We
hope to see you at this fun filled celebration
of the Fall.

Christmas on the
Farm
FREE admission.
PGCHC invites
you to
Christmas on the Farm to share with us many
holiday traditions of the Pennsylvania Germans.
There will also be many other activities going
on throughout the day. The Belsnickel will be
visiting, and carolers will be roaming the farm
singing Christmas carols in the dialect. For
the Kids, there will also be farm animals, and
farm equipment demonstrations in the barn. Our
affiliate groups will also be helping make the
event a success. The Old Time Plow Boys will
also have their kitchen open so be sure to stop
by and get a warm bite to eat. Craftsmen from
the Reading Berks Guild of Craftsmen will be
selling their wares and demonstrating.

A Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas
PGCHC is
extending our Christmas celebrations for the
year! Join us for two evenings of Pennsylvania
Dutch Christmas celebrations as the Heritage
Center comes to life by candle light. Events
will include luminary lantern tours of the
Farmhouse, living history demonstrations,
carolers, and even a visit from the Belsnickel.
When done, enjoy a cup of hot cider as you
gather around a warming fire. Planning for
this event is just getting started, so check
back often for details! Suggested donation of $3
is requested.

Using the grounds
The
Heritage center is available for functions such as family reunions,
children's birthday parties and weddings. Tent set-ups, catering,
etc. can be arranged. We also offer speakers for community
functions. Contact
the
Heritage Center for more information.
Tours or the Heritage Center
Ongoing tours are held throughout the year by appointment.
Large group tours need at least 4 weeks to arrange.
