What do you get when you combine 18th and 19th century Pennsylvania Dutch
culture and traditions with taste-tempting foods, pageantry and quilting;
adding folklore seminars, children's activities and demonstrations of authentic
craftsmanship? An event to please everyone - The Kutztown Pennsylvania
German Festival! We invite you to celebrate with us.
Learn through exhibits, historical reenactments, hands-on demonstrations, pageants, folk art crafts, and seminars. Discover a unique heritage through our display of traditional skills.
The pageants and stage programs depicting the customs and and humor of the "plain" and "fancy" Pennsylvania Dutch are an entertainment delight for everyone. Join in the fun of square dancing, jigging and hoedowning. Then, taste the tradition. Throughout the festival you'll find a variety of the very best traditional Pennsylvania Dutch foods to tempt all appetites. Funnel cakes, hex waffles, soft pretzels, ice cream and apple dumplings are among the delectable.
Our quilt contest, exhibition and sale will fascinate you. See the winning entries in our Pennsylvania Dutch Quilt Challenge. Admire over 800 new and antique handcrafted quilts. Learn more about quilts through our educational seminars. You'll be able to buy the quilt that's just right for you.
At a festival farmers market you can purchase a variety ofty of fresh foods to take home. These "wonderful good" items include country meats, fruits, preserves, "seven sweets and seven sours," homemade baked goods and our famous shoofly pies.
There's no better source of enjoyment than watching children discover and play. That's why the festival is designed to guarantee that kids have plenty of fun. They can play traditional Pennsylvania Dutch games, visit the petting zoo, ride on an early 1900's horse-drawn carousel, frolic in the haystacks, get lost and found in the hay maze
