The Team of the Month selection began with the 1997-98 season.  Each of the seven institutions nominate one male and one female player for inclusion on the Team of the Month. At the final luncheon in February, a Player of the Year and the Team of the Year is announced.

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. — Fourteen student-athletes from Lehigh Valley schools have been named to the Ramada Inn/Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Organization Teams of the Month for the first month of the 1997-98 season.

The Teams of the Month — one for men’s basketball and one for women’s basketball — consist of one player from each of the seven schools in the Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Organization. Honorees are as follows:

Both teams feature a good mix of frontcourt and backcourt players. Each of the seven men’s players is averaging more than 15 points a game, led by the 24.7 points-per-game average of Lehigh guard Brett Eppehimer. Allentown's Jason Moyer (15.1 ppg), Kutztown's Nehemiah Brazil (19.6) and Lafayette's Brian Ehlers (15.2 ppg) round out the backcourt. Manning the frontcourt of this all-star team are Al Munford of East Stroudsburg (16.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg), Jason Moran of Moravian (19.1 ppg, 11.6 rpg) and Jim Doumato of Muhlenberg (15.8 ppg, 11.4 rpg).

All of the women’s players account for between 11 and 16 points a game. At 15.9 ppg, Michelle Geiger of East Stroudsburg heads up a contingent of guards that includes Kutztown's Amy Wahl (15.4 ppg) and Lehigh's Kelly Collins (15.4 ppg). Small forward Jill Roth of Muhlenberg (15.5 ppg) and pivot players Kate Baxter of Allentown (15.2 ppg, 10.0 rpg), Ali Berlin of Lafayette (11.2 ppg) and Leahn Agnew of Moravian (11.0 ppg, 8.4 rpg) round out the squad.

Future Ramada/Inn Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Organization Teams of the Month will be announced at the Organization’s luncheons on Tuesday, January 20, 1998, and Tuesday, February 17, 1998. A Player of the Year will be selected and announced at the last luncheon.

New faces abound on both teams. The only repeaters from the last men's Team of the Month are Lehigh guard Brett Eppehimer, the top scorer on the elite squad with an average of 27.5 points per game, and Moravian forward Jason Moran, who maintained a double-double average of 20.8 points and 10.0 rebounds. Three other players stepped forward with double-double averages: Lafayette big man Stefan Ciosici (26.6 points, 10.4 rebounds), John Plachko of Allentown (16.3, 10.0) and Ian Morris of Kutztown (12.7, 11.0). Spencer Poulson of East Stroudsburg (10.8 ppg), the only other guard to be honored, and Muhlenberg's Matt
Schneider (11.4 ppg) round out the squad.

The women's team is truly a showcase of up-and-coming talent, with seven brand-new players and only one upperclassman (a junior) among them. That veteran is Moravian's Jessie Coughlin, who topped all scorers the last month with an average of 18.0 points per game. Sophomores who made waves were Amanda Buss of East Stroudsburg (14.8 ppg), Kim Guman of Allentown (13.0 ppg), Maureen Trigo of Lehigh (11.8 ppg) and Christel Rocha of Lafayette (8.8 ppg). And making the select squad in only their second month of collegiate play were Muhlenberg's Jessica Drennan, who shot an astounding 71.4 percent from the field in
averaging 12.0 points, and Kutztown's Brianne Homyak (11.6 ppg).

The final Ramada/Inn Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Orgainzation Teams of the Month will be announced at the Organization's luncheon on Tuesday, February 17. A Player of the Year will be selected and announced then as well.
