KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men’s soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime
against Columbia Union College in a non-conference game Wednesday at
Keystone Field.
The Pioneers scored the
game-winner in the 97th minute on a penalty kick by Gary Saint-Fleur, who was
taken down in the box with a clear path on goal.
It was
the second penalty kick of the game as
Bill Frosoni (sr. North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield)
scored the Golden Bears’ only goal after he was taken down by the Pioneers’
keeper in the box. The goal tied the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute.
Columbia Union took the 1-0
lead in the 8th minute on a broken defensive play by KU. Vernon Lambe took a
pass from Augustine Vandy and scored easily on an open net.
KU (2-10-0) outshot
Columbia Union (8-5) 23-8 and held the advantage in corners 9-1; however, the
Golden Bears couldn’t get past keeper Jonathan Uribe, who made 13 saves for the
Pioneers.
KU will return to the field
at 4 p.m. Tuesday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest
against Shippensburg at Keystone Field.
