BOXSCORE
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men’s soccer team, in its
first Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference East game in school history, picked up a 1-0 win at Shippensburg
University Wednesday.
The PSAC was split into two divisions
— East and West — for the first time this season.
Rusty Chapel (jr. Topton/Brandywine) scored the only goal needed, taking a pass from
James Robinson (so. Chester, ENGLAND) and beating
Shippensburg keeper Brad Patke in the 29th minute.
The
Golden Bears
(1-2, 1-0 PSAC East) were outshot 15-14 by the Red Raiders (0-1-1,
0-1 PSAC East), but for the four Shippensburg shots that were
directed on goal,
Matthew Fredericks (jr. Montdale/Lakeland) was there to make
the stop.
The shutout is Fredericks’ first of his career.
The
win for the Golden Bears ends a 26-game PSAC winless streak. Before
Wednesday, KU had not beaten a PSAC foe since Sept. 16, 2006, when
the Golden Bears defeated Millersville 1-0.
KU
will make its 2008 debut at Keystone Field against East Stroudsburg
University in a PSAC East contest at 3 p.m. Saturday.
