Jeppesen, Shapiro lead KU
women into 2009 PSAC meet
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. —
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr.
Bethlehem/Liberty) and
Jordan Shapiro (fr.
Trenton N.J./Princeton) lead the Kutztown University
women’s swimming team into the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic
Championship meet at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg,
Pa.
Jeppesen is seeded in the top four in three events at the 34th
women’s conference championship meet, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday. The championship events will continue through Sunday.
Jeppesen is the top seed in the 200-yard breaststroke with her best
time of 2:21.86 coming at the Franklin & Marshall Invite, an NCAA
A-Cut qualifying time.
She also is seeded third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.10) and
fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:10.74). The 100 breaststroke
time is a NCAA B-Cut mark, and both the 100 and 200 breaststroke
times are school records.
Shapiro has made an immediate splash in the women’s program,
qualifying for three events at the PSAC meet. Her time of 2:08.13 in
the 200 backstroke at the Golden Bear Invite earned her the No. 2
seed in the event this weekend.
She also is fifth in the 100 backstroke, qualifying with a time of
59.74. She’s tied for 16th in the 50 freestyle (24.96).
Alex Crigler (so. West
Lawn/Wilson High School)
and
Kerry Choplin (so.
Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) also qualified for
three events for the Golden Bears.
Crigler, who transferred to KU from Michigan State, has been the
Golden Bears’ top distance swimmer, qualifying for the 500, 1,000
and 1,650 freestyle events. She’s seeded fourth in the 1,650 with
her school record time of 17:53.87, swam at the Franklin & Marshall
Invite.
She’s eighth in the 1,000 (10:49.76) and 12th in the 500 (5:16.51).
Choplin also qualified for the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events, as
well as the 400 IM. Her top seed is ninth in the 400 IM (4:50.31).
She is 12th in the 1,650 (18:23.66) and 16th in the 1,000
(10:59.85).
Laura Heebner (sr.
Easton/Easton)
is seeded eighth in the 400 IM after setting the school record at
the Franklin & Marshall Invite (4:46.34) and 18th in the 200
butterfly (2:17.58).
Heather Wolkom (jr.
Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven)
will swim at the 12th seed in the 1,000 free (10:57.44) and 13th in
the 1,650 free (18:25.15).
Nicole Hinsdale (fr.
Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin)
is fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:09.79) and 15th in the 200
freestyle (2:01.24).
Allison Sheely (so.
Enola/Trinity)
qualified for both the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 1:01.61
and 2:15.15, respectively. She’s seeded 13th in the 100 and 20th in
the 200.
Helena Hewitt (fr. West
Chester/West Chester East)
is 19th in the 400 IM (4:53.70).
The 2009 PSAC meet will start Thursday with the men’s and women’s
1,000 freestyle finals. The women’s event will start at 6:30 p.m.
with the men’s to follow.
Prelims for several events will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the
finals starting at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will follow the same
schedule with the exception of Sunday’s finals starting at 5 p.m.

Seven KU men to swim in
individual events at 2009 PSAC meet
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. —
The Kutztown University men’s swimming team will boast seven
swimmers at the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Championship meet
at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
John Pandish (sr.
Milford/Delaware Valley)
will lead the KU swimming in three events at the 51st men’s
conference championship meet, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The championship events will continue through Sunday.
Pandish is seeded 10th in both the 200-yard individual medley
(1:58.93) and the 400 IM (4:17.64). He’s also 12th in the 200
butterfly (1:59.59).
Joe Lahovski (fr.
Allentown/Emmaus),
Matt Moates (fr. South
Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield),
Scott Thomas (sr.
Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain)
and
Jeff Travor (so.
Quakertown/Quakertown Community)
all will swim in two events this weekend.
Thomas has the best seeding of all the men, earning an eighth seed
in the 200 backstroke (1:59.00). He’s also 15th in the 400 IM
(4:22.24).
Travor is 12th in the 100 breast (1:01.01) and 14th in the 200
breast (2:15.70).
Lahovski will swim as the 14th seed in the 1,650 freestyle
(17:06.00) and the 16th seed in the 1,000 free (10:12.38).
In the 100 back, Moates is the 17th seed (56.11). He’s also the 19th
seed in the 200 back (2:04.43).
Shedleski will swim in the 200 breaststroke as the 14th seed
(2:16.84) and Krater is 15th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.69).
The 2009 PSAC meet will start Thursday with the men’s and women’s
1,000 freestyle finals. The women’s event will start at 6:30 p.m.
with the men’s to follow.
