JEPPESEN, SHAPIRO HIGHLIGHT KU WIN OVER BLOOMSBURG

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton N.J./Princeton) and Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) led the Kutztown University women’s swimming team in a 155-105 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win at Bloomsburg University Saturday.

Both Shapiro and Jeppesen won three individual events and a relay, as the Golden Bears (9-2, 6-2 PSAC) won 12 of the 14 events.

Shapiro won both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, finishing with times of 1:01.93 and 2:12.48, respectively. She also won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.66 seconds.

Jeppesen won the 100 breast (1:09.00) and the 200 breast (2:28.50), as well as the 200 individual medley (2:16.25).

Both Jeppesen and Shapiro teamed with Laura Heebner (sr. Easton/Easton) and Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity) to win the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:10.08.

Heebner also won two events, taking the 100 fly (1:02.63) and the 200 fly (2:18.73).

Alex Crigler (so. West Lawn/Wilson High School) won both the 500 free (5:19.62) and the 1,000 free (10:55.26).

Sheely also won an individual event, finishing first in the 100 free (56.06).

KU will travel to Shippensburg Friday for a 6 p.m. PSAC meet.

CRELLIN LEADS KU WITH TWO FIRST-PLACE FINISHES IN LOSS

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University men's swim team dropped their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Bloomsburg 146-111 on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) had first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (54.89) and the 200-yard back (2:00.95) to lead the Golden Bears.

Another individual first-place finish came from Jeff Travor (so. Quakertown/Quakertown Community) in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.03. Scott Thomas (sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain) and John Pandish (sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) took second (2:05.37) and third (2:05.70), respectively, in the 200 IM for the Golden Bears.

KU (5-2, 2-2 PSAC) claimed the top spot in the 400 free relay with the team of Crellin, Derek Orr (sr. Easton/Easton), Steve Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area), and Gab Recio (so. Lancaster/Hempfield) with a time of 3:19.73.

Joe Lahovski (fr. Allentown/Emmaus) had second-place finishes in the 200 free (1:49.97) and the 1,000 free (10:17.69)

The men will return to action on Friday against Shippensburg at 6 p.m.
