TOP MISERICORDIA AT EAST STROUDSBURG
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
— The
Kutztown University men’s swimming team defeated Misericordia
Saturday afternoon 139-114 at East Stroudsburg.
Jack Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/
North Allegheny) took first in 100-yard backstroke (54.60) and
the 200 backstroke (1:59.23)
In the 1,000 freestyle Scott
Thomas (sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain) finished first with
a time of 10:39.06. Dan Troy (fr. Aldan/Upper Darby) came in
second in the event with a time of 10:43.07.
The Golden Bears took first and
second place in the 200 freestyle. Steve Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottstville
Area) finished in 1:49.19, while Derek Orr (sr. Easton/Easton)
finished in 1:51.45.
John Pandish (sr.
Milford/Delaware Valley) came in second (50.12) behind teammate
Krater (49.57) in the 100 freestyle. Pandish took first in the
200 butterfly in a time of 2:08.44.
In the 500 freestyle Troy took
first with a time of 5:14.34, while Orr came in second at 5:15.25.
John Nicklous (sr.
Philadelphia/Father Judge) and A.J. Guarino (so.
Royersford/Downingtown) took first and second in the
100 butterfly with times of 65.79 and 58.15, respectively.
The Golden Bears will return when
they host the Golden Bear Invitational Nov. 21 and 22.
KU WOMEN TOPS
EAST STROUDSBURG, MISERICORDIA
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
— The Kutztown University women’s swim team had first-place
finishers in 10 of the 14 events on Saturday afternoon at East
Stroudsburg.
The Golden Bears
improved to 3-1 on the season with a 148-104 win over East
Stroudsburg and a 148-108 win over Misericordia. Misericordia beat
East Stroudsburg 145-116.
The relay team of
Nikki Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin), Stephanie Jeppesen
(jr. Bethlehem/Liberty), Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton,
N.J./Princeton) and Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity)
took the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:53.93.
Jeppesen also placed
first in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.67) and the 200 breaststroke
(2:30.81). Sheely took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time
of 1:02.67.
The 1,000 freestyle
event had KU finishers in the top two spots, with Heather Wolkom
(jr.
Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven)
and Shelly Lawn (so. Hatboro/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy)
finishing first (11:00.32) and second (11:44.66), respectively.
KU had a pair of swimmers at the top
of the 500 freestyle, with Wolkom (5:27.2) taking
first and Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford)
second (5:28.60).
Alex Crigler
(so. West Lawn/Wilson) took first place in the 200 butterfly,
posting a time of 2:21.95.
Shapiro finished in
the top spot with a time of 2:12.94 in the 200 backstroke. Taking
second place in the event was Sheely at 2:15.15.
In the
100 freestyle Hinsdale finished in first, posting a time of 56.45.
The Golden Bears will return to action next Saturday, as they travel
to take on Edinboro and Mansfield for a 1 p.m. meet at Edinboro
University.
