LANCASTER, Pa.
— The Kutztown
University men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Lancaster
for the Franklin & Marshall Invitational this weekend.
The invite opens
Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the first session. Session II begin
at 6 p.m. and session III is at 10 a.m. Sunday. Results will be
posted as they are released.
Real time results
and live video of certain lanes of the pool are available via links
on
Franklin & Marshall's Web site.
Along with Franklin
& Marshall and KU, Elizabethtown, Marymount (Va.), McDaniel, Rowan,
St. Mary's (Md.), Swarthmore and Widener will compete this weekend.
The KU women, led
by
Stephanie Jeppesen
(jr. Bethlehem/Liberty),
will look to defend their first-place finish at the invitational
last season. The men's team placed third.

GOLDEN BEAR WOMEN CLAIM FIRST AT FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL
LANCASTER, Pa.
— The Kutztown University women's swim team finished first in the
nine-team field at Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Sunday
afternoon.
The Golden Bears
women finished with 773 points, more than 200 points ahead of second
place Franklin and Marshall (530.5). Rowan (468), St. Mary's (400)
and Marymount (362.5) rounded out the top five.
Steph Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty), who won one event on
Saturday, tacked on two more individual first-place finishes on
Sunday. She was a part of four first-*place finishes in relays, as
well.
After winning the 100-yard breaststroke yesterday, she took first in
the 200 breast at 2:21.86, which gave her an automatic qualifying
time and set a new school record. Jeppesen also took top honors in 200 IM, posting a time of 2:10.74.
Jeppesen, along with
Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity),
Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton, N.J./Princeton) and
Laura Heebner (sr. Easton/Easton) claimed first place in the
400 medley relay (4:01.85).
Nicole Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin), Jeppesen,
Sheely and Shapiro took first place in the 400 free relay (3:40.34)
and the 800 free relay (8:06.13).
Alex Crigler (so. West Lawn/Wilson) set a KU record in the
1,650 free with a time of 17:53.87. The record was formerly held by
Ashley Singer at 17:54.98. Crigler also placed first in the
500 free with a time of 5:16.31, with teammate
Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) taking
second place (5:19.09).
Shapiro won the 50 free with a time of
24.96.
The Golden Bears will return to action
at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at Albright.

KU MEN TAKE SECOND AT FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL
INVITE
LANCASTER, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men's swim team finished in second out of
eight teams on Sunday at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
Host Franklin and
Marshall finished ahead of the Golden Bears with 683 points to KU's
612.5. Rowan (521), Widener (383.5) and Swarthmore (350) rounded out
the top-5 finishers.
KU got a first place
finish from
John
Pandish (sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) in the 400 IM at
4:17.64. Pandish also claimed second place in the 200 butterfly with
a time of 1:59.59.
Jack
Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/North Allegheny), who placed first
in the 100 back Saturday, finished second in the 200 back
(1:55.44), just behind Franklin & Marshall's Matt Jaffee (1:55.18).
He also finished in second in the 500 free with a time of 4:51.94.
In the 1,650 free,
Joe
Lahovski (fr. Allentown/Emmaus) took second place, posting a
time of 17:06.00.
The men will return to the pool at 6
p.m.
Jan. 9 at Albright.

KU WOMEN TOP FIRST DAY EVENTS AT FRANKLIN AND
MARSHALL
LANCASTER, Pa.
— The
Kutztown University women’s swimming team took first place after the
first day events at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on
Saturday afternoon.
The 200 medley relay team of
Nicole Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin),
Steph Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty),
Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton, N.J./Princeton) and
Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity) took first place
with a time of 1:50.55. The relay team also took first place in the
800-yard freestyle, with a time of 8:06.13.
Jeppesen placed first for the Golden Bears in
the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.10, the time established a new
school record and was an NCAA B-cut. Hinsdale took first in
the 200 free, posting a time of 1:58.90.
In the 400 IM
Laura Heebner (sr. Easton/Easton) took first place, setting
a school record with a time of 4:46.34.
Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) finished
second (4:50.31).
KU MEN SECOND AFTER FIRST DAY AT F & M INVITATIONAL
LANCASTER, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men's swimming team finished out the first
day of the Franklin and Marshall Invitational in second place after
Saturday afternoon's events.
The relay team of
Jack
Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/North Allegheny),
Stephen Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area),
Derek Orr (sr. Easton/Easton) and
John Pandish (sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) took first in the
800-yard freestyle.
Crellin also took first place for the Golden Bears in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 53.24.
The
400 IM had the first two spots taken by KU swimmers. Pandish
grabbed the first spot with a time of 4:17.64 and
Scott
Thomas (sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain) took second with
a time of 4:22.24.
