KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University men’s swimming team used two first-place
finishes in individual events Saturday to place second at the 2008
Golden Bear Invitational at Keystone Hall.
Gabriel Recio (so. Lancaster/Hempfield)
and
Nelson Martinez (sr. Allentown/Dieruff) each recorded
first-place finishes, helping KU score 646 points.
Stevens Institute of Technology finished with 705 points to take
first. Montclair State University-N.J. was third with 376 points and
Salisbury University (256) and Ocean County College (113) rounded
out the five teams competing.
Recio won the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 56.17 seconds.
Martinez took the top spot in the 200 breast (2:20.78).
Stevens Institute set a meet and pool record in the 400 IM.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University women’s swimming team finished second at the
2008 Golden Bear Invitational at Keystone Hall.
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty)
and
Alex Crigler (so. West Lawn/Wilson High School) led
the Golden Bears Saturday with individual first-place finishes.
Jeppesen set another pool record — also a school record — swimming
the 200-yard breaststroke in an NCAA B-cut time of 2:23.64.
Crigler finished first in the 1,650 free relay in a time of
18:17.21.
Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) and
Heather Wolkom (jr. Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven)
followed Crigler in second (18:25.11) and third (18:42.45),
respectively.
KU scored 620.5 points to finish behind Stevens Institute of
Technology (666.5). Montclair State University-N.J had 306,
Salisbury University 247, East Stroudsburg University 242 and Ocean
County College 44 to round out the teams competing.
Stevens Institute set a meet and pool record in the 400 IM.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University men’s swimming team is in first place after
the first day of the 2008 Golden Bear Invitational Friday at
Keystone Hall.
Jack Crellin (fr.
Pittsburgh/North Allegheny)
led the Golden Bears with first-place finishes in two individual
events, as well as a relay race, to give KU 363 points. Stevens
Institute of Technology is in second with 341, while
Montclair State
University-N.J has 203, Salisbury University 120 and Ocean County
College 59.
Crellin took first place in the 200 IM
(2:02.22) and in the 200 backstroke (1:59.60). He also led the
800 freestyle relay, competing with teammates
John Pandish (sr.
Milford/Delaware Valley),
Derek Orr (sr.
Easton/Easton) and
Stephen Krater (jr.
Port Carbon/Pottsville Area), to finish first in
7:13.24.
Pandish also finished second in the 200 IM (2:02.30) and third in
the 200 fly (2:07.21).
Gabriel Recio (so.
Lancaster/Hempfield)
was third in the 100 freestyle (50.37).
Scott Thomas (sr.
Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain)
placed third in the 500 free (5:00.88).
David Shedleski (fr.
Mechanicsburg/Trinity)
finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.30).
Scott Thomas (sr.
Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain)
followed Crellin’s first-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a
second-place finish in 2.02.65.
Crellin, Shedleski, Pandish and Krater combined to finish second in
the 400 medley relay (3:43.14).

KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr.
Bethlehem/Liberty) set a pool record in the prelims
and then reset it a few hours later in the finals.
Her first-place, record-breaking swim in the 100 breaststroke helped
the Kutztown University women’s swimming team to 320 points after
one day of competition at the Golden Bear Invitational.
KU is in second place behind Stevens Institute of Technology, which
has 348 points. Montclair State University-N.J. is in third with
143, East Stroudsburg has 141, Salisbury University 122 and Ocean
County College 30.
Jeppesen’s swim of 1:07.09 in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke
broke the pool record set by Kelly Rowan in 2005, and later on in
the finals, Jeppesen broke the record yet again with a time of
1:06.91. Her first-place finish was one of three KU notched Friday.
Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton
N.J./Princeton)
also earned a first-place finish in 200 backstroke with a time of
2:09.13
— a meet and pool record.
KU also earned the top spot in the 400 medley relay with
Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity),
Laura Heebner (sr. Easton/Easton), Jeppesen and
Shapiro swimming it 4:06.55.
In the early session, KU earned a second-place finish in the 800
freestyle relay with Jeppesen,
Nicole Hinsdale (fr. Glen
Mills/Bayard Rustin), Shapiro and
Heather Wolkom (jr. Rumson,
N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven).
