Jeppesen
earns All-America honors, breaks three KU records
HOUSTON —
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr.
Bethlehem/Liberty)
made a huge splash for the Kutztown University women's
swimming team at the NCAA Division II championships at the
University of Houston.
Jeppesen,
who helped KU finish 21st out of 33 teams, earned
All-America honors in her final event of the championships,
while setting three KU school records she already owned.
Her silver
medal finish in the 200-yard breaststroke was her best
performance of the four-day event. She swam the event in 2:16.99
on Saturday, breaking her old record of 2:17.19, which she
set at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet.
Jeppesen
also had ninth- and 12th-place finishes at the NCAA
championships this week.
In the 100
breaststroke, Jeppesen
broke the record in the finals Friday, finishing ninth with
a time of 1:03.94.
Jeppesen set the new KU school record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.28 in preliminaries
Wednesday. She again improved on
her own record with a finals time of 2:05.42, placing 12th, moving
up four places from her qualifying seed.
She will
return for her senior season at KU and will look to lead the
Golden Bears after a record season, winning 11 meets under
13-year head coach Tim Flannery.
