West Chester
tops Kutztown in season opener
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University women’s swim team fell 116-89 to West
Chester in the first dual meet of the 2008-09 season Saturday at
Keystone Hall.
The 200-yard medley
relay team of Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity),
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty), Nicole Hinsdale (fr.
Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin) and Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton
N.J./Princeton) placed first with a time of 1:53.04.
Shapiro also placed
first in 50 freestyle (25.65) and the 100 freestyle (55.18).
In the 200
breaststroke, Jeppesen finished first (2:30.12) and Laura Heebner
(sr. Easton/Easton) came in third (2:37.61). With a time of
2:20.63, Heebner placed second in the 200 butterfly.
Nicole Hinsdale
(fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin) placed first with a time of
2:15.57 in the 200 backstroke. Finishing third was Sheely with a
time of 2:16.30.
The KU women’s
swimming team will host Ramapo for a meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 25.
Crellin tops KU swimmers Saturday, but West Chester prevails 112-93
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The
Kutztown University men’s swimming team fell short of West Chester
University 112-93 in the opening meet of the 2008-09 season Saturday
at Keystone Hall.
The Golden Bears
were led by Jack Crellin (fr.
Pittsburgh/North Allegheny), who finished first in two events,
the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.37) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.38).
Crellin also helped
the 200 freestyle relay team finish second in 1:31.11. In the event,
he swam with Gabriel Recio (so. Lancaster/Hempfield),
Stephen Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) and Derek
Orr (sr. Easton/Easton).
Scott Thomas
(sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain) was right behind Crellin in
the backstroke, placing second with a time of 2:05.50.
John Pandish
(sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) took second in the 500 freestyle
(5:07.05), while Joe Lahovski (fr. Allentown/Emmaus) was
third (5:12.99).
