Kutztown narrowly edges California
KUTZTOWN, Pa.

The Kutztown University women’s swim team edged out California (Pa.)
133-129 on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Pool.
Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton, N.J./Princeton)
and
Steph Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) were multiple
first-place finishers to help lead KU to the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference victory.
Shapiro took first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.10,
with teammate
Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity) taking second at 29.30.
Shapiro grabbed a first-place finish in the 100 back, posting a time
of 1:01.56. Shapiro also earned a second place finish in the 50 free
(25.74).
Jeppesen placed first in the 50 breast (31.73) and the 100 breast
(1:09.48). She finished in second in the 100 free at 55.62.
Also finishing in first for Golden Bears (8-2, 5-2 PSAC) was
Nikki Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin), with a time
of 2:01.46 in the 200 free. Finishing behind Hinsdale in the 200
were KU swimmers
Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) in second
(2:02.96) and
Stephanie Kearns (fr. West Chester/West Chester East) in
third (2:04.53).
Laura Heebner (sr. Easton/Easton)
had second-place finishes in the 100 fly (1:02.47) and the 400 IM
(4:51.85).
The Golden Bears will return to action at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 at Bloomsburg.
