RESULTS

SINGER WINS THREE EVENTS, KU SWIMS PAST ALBRIGHT

READING, Pa. — Ashley Singer (sr. Lititz/Warwick) won three individual events, set two pool records and won a relay to help the Kutztown University women’s swimming team beat Albright College 156-98 Friday.

Singer took the top spot in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyles, while helping the 200 freestyle relay team win first, and the Golden Bears (5-2) won 11 out of the 14 events in the non-conference meet.

She won the 100 with a time of 54.69, while finishing the 200 in 1:56.41 and the 500 in 5:15.01. Her times in the 200 and 500 set new pool records at Albright.

Teamed up with Staci McGinty (sr. Jamison/Central Bucks East), Jill Pantelides (sr. Lansdowne/Archbishop Prendergast) and Allison Sheely (fr. Enola/Trinity), Singer picked up a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.33.

Sheely also was a dual event winner, placing first in the 100 and 200 backstroke, with times of 1:01.50 and 2:14.42, respectively.

Sheely was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:53.78), which included Pantelides, Casey Pollard (fr. Easton/Easton) and Steph Jeppesen (so. Bethlehem/Liberty).

Jeppesen won two individual events, as well, with a 2:27.40 in the 200 breaststroke and a 2:14.58 in the 200 individual medley. Her time in the 200 breaststroke set a new pool record.

Heather Wolkom (so. Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven Reg.) and Pollard were the other two individual event winners for KU.

Wolkom won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:06.68, while Pollard won the 50 freestyle in 26.09.

The Golden Bears will be back in action Saturday at Millersville for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet. KU is 2-2 in the PSAC.


BONIFAS, THOMAS, WILLIAMS LEAD KU OVER ALBRIGHT

READING, Pa.Sean Bonifas (sr. Lancaster/Hempfield)Scott Thomas (jr. Friedensburg/Blue Mountain) and Nicholas Williams (fr. Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) each won two events as the Kutztown University men’s swimming team defeated Albright College 152-96 Friday.

KU (4-1) won 10 out of 14 events to win the non-conference meet.

Williams won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 49.75 and 1:47.34, respectively. He also helped the 200 freestyle relay team, which included Derek Orr (jr. Easton/Easton), Gabriel Recio (fr. Lancaster/Hempfield) and Stephen Krater (so. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area), take first with a time of 1:30.77.

Thomas won the 200 backstroke in 1:59.94, while placing first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:21.08.

Bonifas finished first in both the 100 (1:01.55) and 200 (2:18.46) breaststroke. He, along with Orr, Recio and Danny Murphy (fr. Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:41.30).

Orr also won the 50 freestyle (22.81).

KU will swim again at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 against Bloomsburg at Keystone Hall for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet. KU is 1-1 in PSAC meets this season.
