Kutztown Men, Women Win Team titles at Golden Bear Invitational

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown swept the team titles at the annual Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday.

Kutztown's women scored 659 points, easily outdistancing the nine-team field.  Millersville was a distant second with 366 points.  Stevens Tech was third with 333.

KU's men scored 685 points to top the six-team men's field.  Stevens was second (485), followed by Salisbury (408) and Montclair State (403).

For the women, Ashley Singer won three individual races and was part of four winning relays.  Singer won the 100 free (54.69), the 200 free (1:57.24) and the 1650 free (18:20.49).  She was also part of the winning 200, 400 and 800 free relays, as well as the 400 medley relay.

Steph Jeppesen won the 200 IM (2:14.85) and set a meet record in the 200 breast (2:27.50). Jeppesen was on the winning 800 free relay and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Other KU winners included Staci McGinty in the 500 free (5:26.05). Kelli Pry in the 100 breast (1:11.09) and Laura Heebner in the 200 fly (2:19.32).  McGinty was also on the 400 and 800 free relays.  Jill Pantelides took part in the winning 200 free and medley relays.  Allison Sheely swam on the 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 200 and 400 free relays.  Casey Pollard swam legs of the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 200 free relay. 

Adrian Bumbulsky rounded out the relay winners, swimming on the 800 free relay which set a meet record (8:05.31).

Kutztown's men were led by double-event winners Sean Bonifas and Nick Williams.  Bonifas won the 100 breast (1:02.16) and the 200 breast (2:19.53).  Williams won the 100 free (49.09) and the 200 free (1:47.25).  Bonifas took part in the winning 200 and 400 medley relays, while Williams swam on the winning 200, 400 and 800 free relays and the 400 medley relay. 

Scott Thomas was KU's other event winner in the 200 back (2:03.55).  Steve Krater was on the 400 and 800 free relays.  John Pandish was on the 800 free relay. 

Derek Orr swam the 200, 400 and 800 free relays as well as the 200 medley relay.  Gabe Recio took part in the winning 200 and 400 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays.  Scott Arnold swam legs of the 200 and 400 medley relays.

 The 800 free relay team set a meet and pool record in 7:11.76.
