FT. Lauderdale,
FLA. (January 7, 2010) –
The Kutztown University women’s swimming team finished in third
place out of nine teams at the Bob Mowerson Sprint Meet during its
Florida training trip on Thursday afternoon.
Clarion University finished first
with 232.5 points followed by Bloomsburg University with 206 points.
The Golden Bears collected 144.5 points for third and were followed
by Outaovais Aquatic Club (4th place, 72 points) and Widener
University (5th place, 68 points) to round out the top five.
The Golden Bears swept in the 400-meter freestyle, Kerry
Choplin
(Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) finished first with a time of
4:51.30. Heather Wolkom (Rumson,
N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven)
came
in second with a time of 4:52.62, followed by Alex Crigler
(Sinking Spring/Wilson) at 4:58.67.
Steph Jeppesen (Bethlehem/Liberty) snagged a
first place finish in 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 36.64.
In the 50-meter backstroke, sophomore Jordan
Shapiro (Yardville, NJ/Princeton) posted a time of 34.39 to
finish in fourth place.
After the Golden Bears wrap up
their Florida training trip, they will host the University of
Alaska-Fairbanks on Mon. January 18 at 1 p.m. in Keystone Pool.
