She was also named the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year in 2000. She received the William Dioguardi Award for her contributions to Montclair State and the sport of swimming.

Fowler’s coaching experience includes five years with the Red Hawk Swim Club, two years each with the Westfield YMCA and Elizabethtown Aquatic Club, and a total of seven summers coaching competitive swim teams in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  He also spent the 2002-03 season as the dive coach at Montclair State University and the following two summers as the dive coach for Minisink Swim Club, coaching that program to its first ever league championship.  In 2003, Fowler was selected to represent New Jersey Swimming as a member of the 2003 USA Swimming Eastern Zone Championship coaching staff.

Collegiately, Fowler swam for Elizabethtown College from 1990-94, during which time he accumulated seven team records and served as team captain for his final three seasons with the program.  His senior year, Fowler earned three individual and two relay titles at the Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet, including a conference record and provisional national championship qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke.  During his collegiate career, Fowler was honored as the Elizabethtown College Winter Scholar Athlete and was the recipient of the Dr. Clair R. McCullough Award in recognition of being the most improved student-athlete over a four-year career.
