Kutztown split pair of contests in season opener

SHIPPENSBURG, PA (October 3, 2009) -- The Kutztown University women’s swim team dove into their season Saturday on the road, splitting a pair of contests at Shippensburg University, winning 111-93 over Shippensburg and falling 117-82 to West Chester. (RESULTS)

Steph Jeppesen tallied two wins for the Golden Bears, winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. She finished the 200 IM in  two minutes 13.64 seconds. In the 100-yard breaststroke, she recorded a time of 1:06.55 seconds.

Also in the 100-yard breaststroke, Lauren Piorkowski finished in second place (1:11.14).

Jordan Shapiro came in second place for KU in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 25.24 seconds. She also came in second for the 100-yard freestyle (55.31 seconds).

Heather Wolkom nabbed second place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:27.02 seconds.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Kutztown team consisting of Allison Sheely, Krista Schlupp,  Shapiro, and Jeppesen finished in 1:52.70 seconds.

The Golden Bears will host East Stroudsburg and Misericordia on Saturday October 24 at Keystone Pool.
