Jeppesen leads Golden Bears to win over
UAF
KUTZTOWN, PA
(January 18, 2010) -
After traveling to the University of
Alaska-Fairbanks in November for a meet, the Kutztown University
women's swim team returned the favor by hosting the Nanooks on
Monday afternoon.

The Golden Bears won the meet by a
score of 120-79, improving their overall record to 12-1.

Senior Steph Jeppesen
(Bethlehem/Liberty) nabbed first place in the 200-breaststroke
with a time of 2:24.70 and second place in the 100-freestyle
(55:59).
But it was her performance in the
400-individual medley that was the highlight of the day. Her time
4:37.72 gave her the new school and pool record, surpassing Laura
Heebner's 4:45.72 set last year.
Heather Wolkom (Rumson,
N.J./ Rumson-Fair Haven)
also had a huge day for the Golden Bears. She took first in the
1,650-free with a time of 18:02.21 and 500-free (5:20.09). Wolkom
was followed in the 500 by Kerry Choplin (Thorofare,
N.J./West Deptford) in second (5:21. 95) and Alex Crigler (Sinking
Spring/Wilson) in
third (5:28.91).
The Golden Bears swept the 50-free, with
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville,
N.J./Princeton)
claiming the top spot (25.62). She was followed by Rachel Lokken
(Reading/Reading) and Katie Kelly (Downingtown/Downingtown).
Shapiro and Nikki
Hinsdale (Glen
Mills/Bayard Rustin) added a one-two punch in the 200-back, with
times of 2:14.83 and 2:16.49, respectively.
Lauren Malloy (Lancaster/Lancaster
Catholic) took second place
at 2:00.49 and Stephanie Kearns (West
Chester/West Chester East) was third with a time of 2:01.70 in
the 200-free.
"The girls swam
very strong today," said head coach Tim Flannery. "They
trained really hard down in Florida and it showed today."
The Golden Bears will return to
action on Saturday January 23 at 1p.m. for a meet at Lock Haven with
California (Pa.)
