Kutztown sweeps Alaska-Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS,
AK (October 31, 2009) –
The Kutztown University women’s swimming team capped a perfect
trip to the 49th state by defeating Alaska-Fairbanks,
128-71, Saturday afternoon.

The Golden
Bears improved their overall record to 5-1 by getting individual
victories from junior Alex Crigler (Sinking
Spring/Wilson-West Lawn), sophomore Lauren Malloy
(Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic), sophomore Jordan Shapiro
(Yardville, NJ/Princeton), sophomore Nikki Hinsdale (Glen
Mills/Bayard Rustin), junior Kerry Choplin (Thorofare,
NJ/West Deptford) and Steph Jeppesen (Bethelehem/Liberty).
In addition,
Jeppesen, junior Allison Sheely (Enola/Trinity), junior
Katie Kelly (Downingtown/Downingtown) and Shapiro also
prevailed in the 400-yard medley relay in 4 minutes, 8.51
seconds.
Kutztown won
every distance of the freestyle races. Crigler won the
1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.62). Choplin prevailed in the
500-yard freestyle (5:22.20). Malloy claimed the 200-yard
freestyle (2:00.85). Hinsdale was the winner in the 100-yard
freestyle (56.93). Shapiro cruised to victory in the 50-yard
freestyle (25.84).
Jeppesen won
the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.86).
The Golden
Bears return to the pool next Saturday when they host Mansfield,
Edinboro and Bloomsburg.
