LANCASTER, PA. (December 5, 2009) –
The Kutztown University women’s swimming team leads the Franklin &

competition. In each of the two sessions Saturday, Kutztown had a

meet records.

The Golden Bears lead The College of New Jersey
(425.5 points), Washington, Md. (263), St. Mary’s College of
Maryland (219) and Gettysburg (212). The final session of the meet
begins Sunday at 10 a.m.
Jeppesen had some fun re-writing the record books as
she established meet records in winning the 200-yard individual
medley (2:08.61) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.07). Jeppesen
also punched her ticket to the NCAA Division II championships by
earning an automatic qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke
and a provisional standard in the 200-yard individual medley.
In addition, Jeppesen was part of a pair of meet
record-setting relay teams. She was a member of 400-yard relay team
that included Allison Sheely (Enola/Trinity), Lauren
Malloy (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) and Jordan Shaprio
(Yardville, NJ/Princeton), (4:00.20) in the morning session of
the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
During the second session, Jeppesen, Lauren Malloy
(Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic), Shapiro and Sheely teamed to win
the 200-yard medley relay in a meet record time of 1:50.23.
In the final event of the first day, the quartet of
Kerry Choplin (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford), Nikki
Hinsdale (Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin), Jeppesen and Heather
Wolkom (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) sped to victory in the
800-yard free relay (7:59.61).
Several Golden Bear swimmers enjoyed top five
finishes. Those efforts helped Kutztown grab a slim advantage.
Shapiro led a triumvirate of swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke.
Shapiro finished third (1:00.95). She was followed by Hinsdale
(1:01.81) and Sheely (1:01.85), who finished fourth and fifth,
respectively.
Wolkom was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.15)
and 500-yard freestyle (5:13.12). Malloy and Choplin were fifth in
the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.88) and 400-yard individual medley
(4:48.75), respectively. Hinsdale placed fifth in the 200-yard free
relay (1:58.23). Alex Crigler (Sinking Spring/Wilson West-Lawn)
finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.68).
