Women's
swimming earns national ranking
KUTZTOWN, PA
(January 10, 2010) – The Kutztown University women’s swimming
team is ranked 20th in the most recent CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Top
25 poll.
Enjoying a strong start to the year, Kutztown (11-1 overall) have
won 10 consecutive meets. In addition, Kutztown won the Golden Bear
Invitational and finished second at the Franklin & Marshall
Invitational. The Golden Bears began 2010 by finishing third in the
Bob Mowerson meet in Fort Lauderdale (Fl.) Thursday afternoon.
Kutztown swept the 400-meter freestyle in chilly Florida with Kerry
Choplin (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford), Heather Wolkom (Rumson,
N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and Alex Crigler (Sinking Spring/Wilson)
claiming the top three spots.
Steph Jeppesen (Bethlehem/Liberty) snagged a first place finish in
50-meter breaststroke with a time of 36.64. Jeppesen has
automatically qualified in the 100 and 200-meter breaststrokes for
the NCAA Division II championships to be held at Canton (Ohio) in
March. Sophomore Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, NJ/Princeton) was fourth
in the 50-meter backstroke.
Kutztown returns to the pool on Monday, January 18 when it hosts the
University of Alaska-Fairbanks in a meet beginning at 1 p.m.
