MEN: KU 6, Mercyhurst 1         RECAP | BOXSCORE

KU DOWNS MERCYHURST 6-1

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University men’s tennis team defeated Mercyhurst University 6-1 in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match Thursday afternoon.

KU (8-3, 4-0 PSAC) was led by Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA), who each went 2-0 on the day.

The duo teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-1 over Ronnie Heurich and Tim Hansson. Labitsch won his No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-2 over Heurich, while Sharma won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) won at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1.

Baquerizo also got a win at No. 1 singles after dropping the first set 6-7, he won 6-2 in the second set and 1-0 in the super tiebreaker.

Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) collected the other win for the Golden Bears by a score of 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles.

Goulet and Kaushik Das (Assam, INDIA) were each winning their respective singles matches, however they were unable to finish them and not receive the wins.

The Golden Bears will return to the courts at 2 p.m. Friday to take on Queens (N.Y.) at the Bloomsburg Duals.
