KU
men close out PSAC regular season in first place
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men’s tennis team claimed the regular
season title in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with a
9-0 win over Millersville Sunday at the Kutztown Courts.
KU (11-4, 5-0 PSAC) was led by
Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA)
and
Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA)
who won their eighth straight doubles match.
The duo teamed up to win at No. 1
doubles, defeating Andrew Sorgi and Drew Slocum 8-4.
Labitsch also won his seventh straight
singles match in a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Donald Swantko in the No. 2
singles match.
Sharma won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles
match, beating Sorgi.
Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and
Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) won 8-0 at No. 3
doubles. Baquerizo also beat Drew Slocum 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Kaushik
Das (Assam, INDIA)
and
Rubens
Vianna (sr. Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) won 8-4 at No. 2
doubles.
Vianna,
Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan)
and
Arijit
Goswami (fr. Kolkata, INDIA) also won singles matches for
KU.
KU win 7-2 over Millersville, finish second in PSAC East
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University women’s tennis team closed out the regular
season with a 7-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East win
over Millersville Sunday at Kutztown Courts.
The Golden Bears (10-4, 4-1 PSAC
East) finished second in the PSAC East behind undefeated Bloomsburg.
Rohini
Das (jr.Calcutta, INDIA) led the Golden Bears winning at No.
1 doubles and No. 1 singles.
She defeated
Samantha Prager in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with
Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA) to win 8-1 in their
doubles match.
Arnaud also won
6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Barbara Joerns (Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) picked up a win at
the No. 2 singles, beating Andrea Konas 6-0, 6-1. She also, paired
with
Nicole Devine (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic), who
won her No. 4 singles match, won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Shir Suez
(jr. Even Yehuda, ISREAL) also earned KU a point with her
victory at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 over Shauna Powers.
