KU men, women pick up wins Saturday against USP

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University men’s and women’s tennis teams each picked up wins over the University of the Sciences Saturday on the campus of Kutztown.

The men’s team swept all nine matches winning 9-0, while the women’s team won 8-1.

Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won their doubles match, as well as winning their individual contests.

The duo teamed up to win 8-1 over Francisco Garcia and William Fine in the No. 1 doubles, and  Baquerizo won 6-0, 6-1 over Garcia in the No. 1 singles, while Labitsch won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Fine at the No. 2 spot.

Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) also won multiple matches Saturday. The two players teamed up to win 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles match, and Goulet won 6-0, 6-0 over Dan Rubin in the No. 3 singles, while Sharma won 6-0, 6-1 over Chris Lukose in the No. 4 singles.

Arijit Goswami (fr. Kolkata, INDIA) and Rubens Vianna (sr. Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5 over Roger Vanseyoc and Jason Chen.

Goswami won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles, defeating Vanseyoc.

Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) also picked up a win in the No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1 over Kenneth Connelly.

On the women’s side, KU was led by Rohini Das (jr. Calcutta, INDIA) and Barbara Joerns (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY).

Das and Joerns won 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles match, defeating Zahra Hasan and Bridget Frymoyer. Das also won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles, downing Hasan again.

Joerns also won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles, defeating Christina Sebastiani.

Sebastiani, teamed with Laney Jones, lost 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles to Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA) and Nicole Devine (so. Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic).

Arnaud beat Frymoyer 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles and Devine won 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles over Jones.

Shir Suez (jr. Even-Yehuda, ISRAEL) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jeanine DePasquale in the sixth singles match.

Chelsea White (fr. Landenberg/Avon Grove) and Tess Wright (so. Lewisburg/Lewisburg) won the No. 3 doubles match, 8-0 over Danielle Perfetti and Gabrielle Exler.
