SWEEP YORK COLLEGE
9-0
HILTON HEAD, S.C.
— The Kutztown University men’s tennis team picked up its first win
of the season, sweeping York College 9-0 Wednesday in Hilton Head,
S.C.
Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR)
and Kaushik Das (fr. Assam, INDIA)
led the Golden Bears (1-1) with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Both players also won their respective doubles matches.
Baquerizo teamed up with
Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA)
to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-2 over Tim Mowrer and Colin Jones.
Baquerizo also won in three sets over Mowrer in the No. 1 singles
match.
Mowrer took the first set 6-3, but Baquerizo swept the next two sets
6-2, 6-4 to give KU the point.
Das won 7-5, 6-4 over Paul Graci at the No. 2 singles and teamed
with
Ronak Amalani (fr. Rajkot, INDIA)
to win 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles over
Graci and Steve Collison.
Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA)
and
Rubens Vianna (sr. Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL)
also won two matches Wednesday. Both players paired up in the No. 2
doubles match to defeat Joel Trimmer and Jeff Mansfield 8-1.
Goulet beat Trimmer
again at the No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Vianna defeated Mansfield
in the No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Arijit Goswami (fr. Kolkata, INDIA)
and
Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan)
also won singles matches
for KU.
Torrealba won 6-2,
6-3 over Collison at the No. 4 singles, and Goswami won 6-7 (4-7),
6-2, 10-2 over Travis Klein at the sixth spot.
KU will return to
the court for a match against Armstrong Atlantic at 2 p.m. Thursday.
KU WOMEN SWEEP No. 1 THROUGH 4 SINGLES IN 6-3 WIN OVER YORK
HILTON HEAD, S.C.
— The Kutztown University women’s tennis team won its first match of
the spring season, earning a 6-3 win over York College Wednesday at
Hilton Head, S.C.
Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA),
Rohini Das (jr. Calcutta, INDIA),
Nicole Devine (so. Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic)
and
Barbara Joerns (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY)
all won two matches Wednesday to lead
the Golden Bears.
Joerns and Das
swept the No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and teamed up to win
8-1 over Katelyn Acker and Paige Doutrich in the No. 1 doubles
match.
Joerns won 6-1, 6-0
against Acker in the No. 1 singles, and Das won in straight sets
6-0, 6-0 over Doutrich.
Arnaud and Devine
teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles match 8-0, defeating Keturah
Buchanan and Heidi Acker.
