2009-10 Meet Results

KUTZTOWN, PA
(September 28, 2009) - The Kutztown University men's and women's
teams picked up on Monday where the rain shortened Sunday left off
at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional.
The No. 1 seeded
doubles team of
Arpit
Sharma (Kolkata, INDIA) and
Jonathon Goulet (Quebec/Canda) fell in the championship
round to Bloomsburg's Fernando Perez and Ricky Dove by a score of
10-2. Earlier in the day, the duo continued their dominance,
defeating Bloomsburg's Lee Wexler and Kyle Colilouri 8-4. They followed that up with an 8-2 win over Drew Slocum and Andrew Sorgi
of Millersville to reach the finals.
In singles, on the
men's side
Kaushik
Das (Guwahati, INDIA) fell in the quarterfinals to Alvaro
Ochoa by a score of 6-10. Due to Sunday's rainouts, the matches have
been changed to a first to win 10 sets format.
Andy
Torrealba (Pembroke, FL/Charles W. Flanagan) gave Rafel
Cavalcante a run, but was unable to come out on top. After losing
the first set 3-6, Torrealba bounced back with a 6-4 win before
dropping the super-tiebreaker 10-8.
On the women's
side,
Rohini Das (Calcutta, INDIA) dropped her quarterfinal match
to Nicole Andreini 10-4. She picked up her match from Sunday
against Laura Sullivan of Bloomsburg with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Das then
dominated Emily Osborne of California (PA) 10-1 to reach the
quarterfinal.
In doubles, Das and
Ridhima
Borooah (Guwahati, INDIA) advanced to the semifinals with
default win over a duo from the University of Charleston. In the
semifinals the duo lost to 8-1 to California (Pa) duo of Laurie
Navarro and Nina Kowalski.
The men and women
will have off until Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 at
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at
Bloomsburg University.

had multiple standouts at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
Atlantic Regional at Bloomsburg University.

Kaushik
Das (Guwahati, INDIA),
Andy
Torrealba (Pembroke, FL/Charles W. Flanagan) and
Arpit
Sharma (Kolkata, INDIA) each advanced to the third round in
the men's singles bracket.
Das, seeded No. 2,
received a bye in the first round and defeated Will Norris in the
second round 6-3, 6-0. Das defeated Bloomsburg's Brandon Cummings by
set scores of 6-2 and 7-5, he will await the winner of a match
between Marcin Majchrzak and Alvaro Ochoa.
Torrealba had a bye
in the first round before defeating Millersville's Tyler Reppert
6-2, 6-3. Sharma had a first round bye and won his match 7-5, 6-4.
Jonathan Goulet (Quebec/Canda) and Sharma entered the
doubles bracket seeded No. 1. After a first round bye, the duo won
8-4 and will face Lee Wexler and Kyle Colilouri of Bloomsburg.
On the women's
side,
Rohini Das (Calcutta, INDIA),
Ridhima
Borooah (Guwahati, INDIA) and
Sabrina
Arnaud (Pintendre, CANADA) are still fighting for the title
in the singles bracket.
Arnaud won 6-2, 6-4
in the first round against Slippery Rock's Danja Drmac. She will
next take on Laurie Navarro from California (Pa.). Borooah won her
match 7-5, 6-0 and will face Bloomsburg's Alison Carney. Das, seeded
No. 3, received a first round bye, she will face Bloomsburg's Laura
Sullivan.
In the women's
doubles, Das and Borooah needed a few extra sets before taking down
their doubles opponent from Clarion by a score of 9-7, after being
awarded a first round bye.
Arnaud and
Nicole Devine (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) won 8-6
in the first round before falling to top seeded Alina Stanila and
Axelle Fernandez.
