Kutztown, PA (September 19, 2009) — The Kutztown University women’s tennis team split its fall season opening matches with Shippensburg and California (PA) on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears swept Shippensburg 9-0 and were then swept by California 9-0.

Rohini Das (Calcutta, INDIA) playing out of the No.1 spot in both singles and doubles defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 in singles. Das and freshman Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati, INDIA) teamed to win in the No. 1 doubles by a 8-0 score.

Sabrina Arnaud (Pintendre, CANADA) and Nicole Devine (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) won in the No. 2 doubles slot with an 8-0 set score. Arnaud kept remained unbeaten against Shippensburg by winning her match 6-0, 6-0 at the second singles. Devine, playing at the three spot, won 6-2, 6-2.

Megan Groh (Bethlehem/Nazareth) and Tess Wright (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) were winners at third doubles with an 8-3 score. Groh fought off a 6-4 win in the her first set in singles and handled her opponent 6-1 in the second set for a win at the fifth singles. Wright had a battle at the No. 6 singles, but ultimately prevailed with a 7-5 win in both sets.

In the Golden Bears loss to California (PA), Arnaud put up a strong fight in her loss at second singles. Arnaud took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 0-6. In the tiebreaker she fell by a only a 10-7 margin.
